Views from the South Rim
We got to the National Forest Campground (Ten X) just 4 miles south of the Grand Canyon Nat'l Park late on Thursday afternoon. We had read that it rarely fills up, and there were a few spots left. We made camp, but as we were in the forest, no internet or tv...we were "roughing" it!! We did a lot of reading the evenings we stayed there, and found a DVD we hadn't watched yet 😊

We got up Friday morning and headed for the canyon. I took one picture and the camera battery went dead, so we headed to the Park HQ and asked if we could charge it for a bit. They have the only wifi in the area there, so we got coffee and surfed waiting for the battery to charge. Then we were off to take shuttle busses from viewpoint to viewpoint!! It's awesome...I think that's how the word was invented...the first glimpse of the Grand Canyon!! We took the entire shuttle bus route along the south rim...it was really fabulous, but we were tired by the time we got through it 😊 Back to the coach for dinner. It smelled so fabulous in the forest...lots of pine trees, but there were prickly pear cactus in the area as well...apparently a desert forest 😊

We rose Saturday morning to go further east along the rim of the canyon. There is a watchtower built in the 30's we wanted to have a look at. It was really a marvel for the time!! Glenn wanted to see if there was any Navajo history to see further east, so we headed for Tuba City. Wow!! Talk about living in poverty...I've never seen an entire town made up of manufactured housing!! Even the businesses were housed in trailers...

They do have a small museum there, so we took that in and learned that Indian injustices were alive and well in that area until fairly recently. There was an ordinance that the natives couldn't make basic improvements i.e. water an electricity until I believe the 80's!! Hard to imagine!!

When we stopped at Joshua Tree, G stepped out of the coach and this guy was laying at the side of the road...apparently "Roaming Batman"...his usual spot is on the dashboard of the coach!!
