It is a day like this one that inspires me to think about this life of mine. I'm 50 years old and I'm retired. I love my husband with a love I never dreamed could have existed before I met him. We live in a 36' RV and have started living a life that a lot of people have dreamed of but may never be able to experience! This is a life that is blessed beyond measure. We have entered a new phase of our trip now. We have really enjoyed our previous stops and the people we have met on this years trip to Arizona, but now we are alone. We have graduated to the "us" zone. Boondocking where no one else is or will be, surrounded by mountains, valleys, rivers, calm and quiet, and ... read more

We have been going at a slower pace since Ron broke his toe. Not much to do for the piggy that cried wee wee wee all the way home, but ice, rest and tape. We did an afternoon at the Fort McDowell casino in Fountain Hills. Ron won $40 on a penny slot machine so that kept us going for a while. We moved on to Cottonwood, AZ, to Dead Horse Ranch State Park. The old part of Cottonwood is a great little town. It considers itself old since it has been around since the late 1800's. There are several good restaurants and cafes and crafty type stores. On the weekend we went to the local Fair Grounds to see the Flywheel Engine Show - there was also a tractor parade! From our campsite we can ... read more

Thanks for everyone's comments. We are settled in at Thousand Trails in Verde Valley, AZ. I’m learning Windows 7 on our new computer. This is why I haven’t answered blog comments or emailed in awhile. Tom and I had our physicals and he also saw his cardiologist. He is doing great! I have my foot out of its cast and have been playing pickleball for a few weeks now! Friends Ed and Sandy were here, and I made new PB friends of Toni and Kathy and am getting reacquainted with Jim from Lake Whitney TT. Newbies Jeannie and Larry are learning the game too. So we have enough players for a game until January. (Hi temp in the 70's and low around 38.) (Ya’ll come!) We are staying here through April. This is the first time ... read more

When I wrote the other day, I left out a VERY important detail... we saw our first rattlesnake! Turns out it's a regular at the Palatka ruins. They have even named the little guy. I was able to get some pics of him - his name is Jake. It makes us a bit nervous that they are coming out now, but we have walking sticks that we are carrying with us now. Hopefully they will provide enough protection should we need it.... So yesterday we went on a 5+ mile hike into Boynton Canyon. It was so lush with trees! Looking at those red rock towers through all the trees was kind of surreal. The views weren't as impressive as some of the previous ones we have experienced, but they were still beautiful. It was a ... read more

Here we go! We are in Cottonwood at Dead Horse Ranch. It got it's name from the family who originally settled here. They had looked at several different ranches in the area and the one they chose was the one with the "dead horse" on it. When they sold the area to the State, there was a stipulation that the name remain "Dead Horse Ranch". It is a beautiful area. There is a big lagoon in the park that we drove to before we headed for the camping area. It's a really nice day area for picnicing - even had a couple of pretty herons right on the shore. On the way here, we saw this town way up in the hills and found out that it is an old mining town called Jerome. Cottenwood was ... read more

Day: 175 Miles: 7,580 with about 2,500 left to get home The Tucson Gem and Fossil show is enormous and we dropped in on just a very small bit of it. The huge specimens of gems and crystals for sale makes us wonder if anything is left in some places. We made some purchases and wanted many more. I found a ring with small bits of opal and amethyst set into silver and Ron bought a large piece of malachite to carve and polish. We'll be back next year. After the gem show we spent 2 weeks in McDowell Mountain Park just outside of Fountain Hills. This is a Maricopa County park and has won awards as one of the best parks in the US. Our campsite had one neighboring site across the street, but on ... read more
