We get up around 7AM. We slept good. Larry and Henna join us for lattes. We sat around and chatted for awhile. We then had a leisurely breakfast: scrambled eggs, bacon, Larry's chili (shredded pork, tomatoes, spices). It's hot and spicy and we put it on top of our eggs. It was about 10:45. I'd better get a shower; Annie, Bobbie and Denny are coming around 11:30. They arrive safely around 11:30. It is very windy up on top of this hill. We help them unload. Denny is staying with us; Bobbie and Annie with Larry and Henna. The guys head to Sierra Vista. Larry has to get a spare tire for his RV. The girls sit around and chat for awhile, then we head to town. If you've been to Bisbee, you know it's an ... read more

We are headed to Bisbee, AZ for the weekend with Larry, Henna, Bobbie, Annie and Denny. Bisbee is 82 miles southeast of Tucson. Bisbee was founded as a copper, gold, and silver mining town in 1880, and named in honor of Judge DeWitt Bisbee, one of the financial backers of the adjacent Copper Queen Mine. In 1929, the county seat was moved from Tombstone, Arizona to Bisbee, where it remains. A syndicated television series which aired from 1956-1958, Sheriff of Cochise starring John Bromfield, was filmed in Bisbee. Mining in the Mule Mountains proved quite successful: in the early 20th century the population of Bisbee soared. Incorporated in 1902, by 1910 its population swelled to 9,019 and it sported a constellation of suburbs, including Warren, Lowell, and San Jose, some of which had been founded on ... read more

Bisbee Bisbee was a fun town to visit. We camped within an easy walking distance of the historic area. The history of the town was copper mining, but now it seems to be tourism and art. We ended up staying in Bisbee longer than we had planned, but it was an enjoyable place to stay. Every place is either uphill or downhill, nothing seems to be on the same level due to it’s location on the side of a mountain. One evening we took some stairs to get from one street to the next street and were surprised by how many flights of stairs it took to get there. Tombstone I thought the gunfight at the OK Corral was from a movie or TV show. Now I know that it was an actual event that has ... read more

We left the Grand Canyon hoping to find some heat-I am so tired of this weather, and headed south. As well, we're surprised at how much gas we're going through...the tanks are small(takes about 85 dollars to fill) but we've been reaching some pretty high elevations -8000 feet, and with hauling a trailer and 4 big people it feels like we're filling up alot-nothing like a charge card. I'm determined to keep financial reality out of this trip. S0, we left the Grand Canyon, through Flagstaff-got lost in the first big city we've seen for a while-rookies, through Phoenix at night and hung out with the truckers at the Casa Grande rest stop-we were the only RV surrounded by big rigs. The next morning we drove to Tucson and went to a very cool natural history ... read more

Seufer6: Destination: Bisbee, Arizona Sunday, February 5, 2007 After another great nights rest, we were up early. Ty and I went on a long brisk early morning walk and scoped out Tombstone's breakfast selections. For some reason we were hungry for a good greasy spoon breakfast. Meanwhile, the kids we at the motorhome, cleaning up and getting ready for the day. When we found a little place called O.K. Cafe, we called the kids and had them meet us there. We enjoyed a good small town yummy greasy breakfast. Jessica and Tanner wanted to go exploring on their own, so off they went to browse the shops. One block from our park was a quaint little church, so I headed back to the RV to get ready, while Ty checked Emma and Lilly into the church ... read more

Texas to New Mexico to Arizona January 20, 2007, Saturday. We leave Study Butte, in spite of weather warnings to stay off the roads. We travel north and west to La Cruces, NM. It felt so good to wipe the mud off our shoes and leave TX. Today was just a travel day and the roads were clear, however, a truck passing in the opposite directions threw up a stone and chipped our windshield. January 21, 2007, Sunday. Our objective today is to drive to Douglas, AZ, another border town, and enter Mexico for the afternoon. So after a few hours of driving, we simply walk into Agua Prieta. The Bothan was parked in a supermarket lot in the US, but later we discovered a public lot right at the border. There are many shops ... read more

Last night, we arranged with Ranch Manager, Susan, to eat a late breakfast. Our plan was to sleep-in since we are leaving today. Ranch dog, Dharma, had other ideas as she barked our wake-up call around 7am. This morning’s sky is solid blue, not even the hint of a cloud can be seen. Alan and I sit in the gazebo with our coffee and watch geese glide on the lake. A light breeze sways the beige cloth panels that hang on the corners of the gazebo. Birds twitter as they fly by. Relaxation doesn’t get any better than this! Breakfast is an omelet stuffed with portabella mushrooms, artichokes and goat cheese, toast with marmalade, a mix of fried potatoes and sweet potatoes, plus coffee and juice. We need physical activity to walk off this delicious food. ... read more

A squirrel is today’s breakfast entertainment. He climbs into the birdseed tray that sits beside one of Sunglow Cafe’s windows. After filling up on birdseed, his cheeks bulge and his neck appears to have a goiter. The squirrel scampers off to unload the seed stash at his secret hideaway then comes back to the feeder with cheeks empty and ready to re-load. The Acorn Woodpeckers have seen enough, they dive and peck at the squirrel, driving him away. Sunglow Ranch provides another hearty breakfast. Eggs, cheese and bacon stuffed into a large croissant, fried potatoes, toast with orange marmalade, juice and coffee should sustain us on our drive across the mountains. This time, as we drive the road to url=http://myitchytravelfeet.com/2009/06/02/traveling-off-beaten-path-in-the-chi... read more

We’re hiking in the Chiricahuas today. The Sunglow’s hearty breakfast of fried eggs over potatoes, sausage, toast with orange marmalade plus coffee and juice should keep us going until dinnertime. As we drive Turkey Creek Rd. towards the highway, another rattlesnake is crossing the road. This one coils slightly as the Jeep approaches. Alan gets out to look but I’m content to observe the snake from inside the Jeep. On Highway 181/186, it is still necessary to ford several streams that rush across the road. We also find a box turtle in the middle of the highway. Alan backs up the Jeep, gets out and guards the turtle until it is safely on the grassy roadside. Of course, we haven’t seen a car on the highway all morning. The monument guardhouse is manned today, so Alan ... read more
