The Adventure The dream. How many people have been at work thinking….Sell everything, get a RV, and hit the road. Sounds easy. It actually took us 2 months to do it, selling a home of 18 years, finding storage for the things you want to keep (just in case you want that old life back). Then arranging insurance on all that, and your health. Not to mention the emotional roller coaster this all sends you on. We have finally hit the road. Day 1 We left Winnipeg, family and friends to stay with my parents in Portage la Prairie on Nov 11th, anxious to beat the snow loaming on the Canadian prairies. Day 2 Unable to sleep we tried to sneak out of my parents at 3:30 AM to go to Calgary. Even now we were ... read more

What a day! We headed up to Lost Dutchman and hiked up to the top - and beyond. I've indicated where we went in a couple of pictures here. Allie did great with the packs - still very light, not much in them. We had some serious steep rocks to get up and over, and although she tried to find another way, she ended up coming up the same route as us. Once she got up, her whole attitude changed. It was like a self confidence boost that was so visable! We were so proud of her! And of us. We really did some climbing today. I'm pretty sure that I have created a monster - letting Bob take the lead on these hikes. Pretty scary. He's doing great though. Hardly sore at all. And our ... read more

Some of you may wonder if we felt the earthquake. I wouldn't normally admit to this. Just know that, Okay? I am just saying this to answer all of your questions as to whether or not we felt the 7.2 earthquake centered, I guess, somewhere in California.... Yes. We felt it. We were laying by the pool and I felt my chair moving - it was just ever so slightly rocking from side to side. I said "Bob, is your chair moving, because mine is moving". He said "yeah, my chair is moving" and we knew that we were having an earthquake, but didn't saying anything else about it. Until Angela called and asked if we were okay, and did we feel the earthquake... ... read more

We went for a short hike yesterday to try out Allies new saddlebags. All we put in them was a bag of cheetoes (for Allie - her favorite treat) and some soy nuts. She wasn't really thrilled about it. Walked pretty slow the whole way. We figure she will get used to it and start to enjoy being a participant... we hope at least. Anyway, these pictures are of Silly Mountain. It was a nice hike, very strenuous in places, but enjoyable none-the-less. Happy Easter everyone! Spring is a re-birth of the earth and we can all take advantage of that rebirth by asking God into our lives. Ask forgiveness for sins past, start over fresh with a new heart, a new mindset, a new worldview. Easter is such a wonderful opportunity to re-focus our energies ... read more

We left fairly early this morning but not as early as we had hoped. We headed up Bush Hwy to 77 to get to Payson and then a little further east to head down another dirt road that is supposed to be as scenic and beautiful as the Apache Trail. We were going to look for another trail to hike, but weren't sure which one we'd be doing. We saw a state park sign and lit on down the road to find Stewart Dam which for a small dam was pretty darned impressive. Beyond that, Suguaro Lake that had been created by the dam. It was beautiful! A few boats and jet skiis skattered around this huge lake surrounded by hills covered with green. When we got to payson, we found ourselves at 4800 feet and ... read more

We are hikin' FOOLS people! I am SO proud of Bob - he is pushing himself pretty hard and although we anticipated him being pretty sore, he is doing quite well. Of course it helps considerably that there is a hot tub here at the park. Tuesday we went up to Goldfield Ghost Town, an old mining town with a little train that went around the area, mine tours, a reptile zoo that cost way too much to entice me, and a lot of buildings that I'm not sure were really there before 1970. We didn't do a lot of investigating here. It was quite the tourist destination and we had a lot to do. We left there and went up to Lost Dutchman State Park and went hiking up to the top of Jacobs Crosscut ... read more
