Cruising Hubbard Glacier We spent our day cruising out of Seward into Hubbard Glacier on our way to Juneau, Alaska. The glacier was covered with a light covering of silt, a grinding of the glacier ice against the mountain rock. The temperature was cold out by the front of ship but didn't keep cruisers from viewing the glaciers. We met up with others from cruise critic to do our slot pull. It was a fun way to spend our 21.00. We didn't strike it big on the slots but we eached earned 10.00 back. We moved onto to red, white, blue slot machine that was dad and Ann's favorite and won around 25.00. Lavern won $14 on a penny machine. I lost some so when we headed out of casino we had an enjoyable hour and ... read more

We took our time to arise on this second scenic cruising day of our first Alaskan Adventure together, finishing yesterday’s blog but having internet issues trying to get it posted. Sharon made her way to the 8am mass ahead of John, but neglected to tell him that the venue had changed (not that it seemed to matter). Sharon arrived at the Wajang Theatre room to find one other person waiting for mass, and decided to check the daily schedule at the front desk, and found that mass was again being held in the deco styled Queens Lounge. Meanwhile, John made his way to the Upper Promenade deck seeking the theatre which he could not seem to find (it’s on the Promenade deck), but heard the priest’s voice (who was in strong form this morning) carry though ... read more

Bright and early morning today! We spent the day on the ship, cruising thru Yakutat Bay towards Hubbard Glacier. Sounds amazing, eh? Well, it was… except we entered the bay at 6:30am haha. SO EARLY. Everyone was parked out at the front of the ship, or along the side decks on the top floor. I figured ‘screw that. If I’m getting up this early I want a good breakfast and copious amounts of coffee’. We headed to the back of the ship, brought breakfast with us… and for the first 30 or so minutes we were totally by ourselves to enjoy the view. Unfortunately, around 7-7:15am our secret spot got out ;) Going into the Bay was a great sight – the water became one huge ice field, with little chunks of glacier floating all around ... read more

It’s another early morning start today when url=http://myitchytravelfeet.com/2009/09/09/cruising-vancouver-to-singapore-regent-seven-seas-mariner/ Mariner goes exploring in Hubbard Glacier. Although Alan arrives in the Observation Lounge before 7 a.m., the prime window seats have already been saved with passengers’ cameras and coats. When I join Alan, Mariner is just entering Disenchantment Bay. On a clear autumn day, the Elias and Fairweather Mountain Ranges poke their glistening white peaks into a deep blue sky. Hubbard Glaciers jagged ice glows in the morning sun. We’re in luck to be the only ship here. Mariner has no viewing competition as the captain pirouettes the ship round and round so that all have a spectacular view. Gold, Platinum and Titanium cruisers (those with many days cruising with Regent) are invited to an outside area on the 8th deck for a special Hubb... read more

Since Matt and I didnt really get a honeymoon just the two of us, we decided to take advantage of a last minute cruise deal up to Alaska. It was easy to do, since we could just drive downtown and hop on, so we decided to go for it! We had beautiful sunny weather on our departure day of Sunday August 30th. We were able to bask in the sun on the top deck and wave goodbye as we sailed under the Lions Gate Bridge and out into the open ocean. The water just sparkled and it looked so beautiful as the sun began to set! Within no time we were out where their was no land on the horizon and all we could see was the open ocean. The ship itself was magnificent, with numerous ... read more

We were woken up by very rough seas this morning, waves were huge and the boat was rocking from left to right very hard. We could feel it in our stomachs. We got up, and went to have very little breakfast. Heather wasn't feeling too well. We went into the Theatre to watch a seminar on the wildlife in Juneau. The Theatre is at the front of the boat so it was rocking even more. We only stayed about 10 minutes. We went to the shop to buy some motion sickness medication. Heather took one in the room. We then sat for a few minutes. Then suddenly Heather got up and went to puke in the bin in the room. She then stubbled her way across to the bathroom where she puked some more...yummy!?! We layd ... read more

Alaska Cruise 2007 North America » United States » Alaska » Inside Passage » Hubbard Glacier By Capt MayhemJuly 1st 2007Day three of cruise: A very brisk morning to get up and see Hubbard Glacier. Captain had us in the area from 8:00am to about 9:30am as there was another cruise ship waiting to get in behind us. Weather was probably 10 - 12 degrees celsius with a 5 degree wind chill. Still good shorts wearing weather! The ship was able to get in pretty close for us on deck to take some... read more

While I'm technically in Sitka now, this entry is going to really be more about what has been happening especially yesterday as it was our Hubbard Glacier day. After my last entry in Juneau, I left the Internet cafe and walked back to the ship. This ended up being a very wet mile, but it was nice to get a semi-hike in. Back onboard, I got changed into dry clothes and went to dinner followed by a comedy show and then a version of "American Idol" they hold on board where passengers "try out" and then sing before a panel of judges which included our illustrious cruise director, one of the singers from the shows they do on board, and one of the DJs. It was most definitely a lot of fun. I've finally realized ... read more
