... read more

Had a good night sleep at the RV Park. Took a drive along the spit and snapped a few photos of the area before heading over to the visitors centre for maps and info on the local area. Geoff is keen to take some good quality photos of eagles and other wildlife. So far he hasn't been lucky. The ocean and islands visitors centre at Homer is well worth as stop over. Lots of exhibits for the public and the staff are helpful too. Headed over to the public library to use the wi-fi as the free wi-fi in the RV park was absolutely useless. Organised all our receipts to send to Celebrity Cruises for refund of expenses. Needed to get that done as it's too easy to lose the receipts. Very nice library here at ... read more

Woke up bright and early this morning. As we had spent the night in a pull over on the side of the Seward Highway. Pleased to say it was another bright sunny day. We drove for a couple of hours until we reached Sterling. Stopped off at a drive thru coffee store and then had a look at some amazing wood carvings which were right next store to the coffee store. Alaska has a lot of drive thru coffee houses around. These coffee houses are like small cabins placed in car parks, shopping centres or just plain anywhere. You can drive through or just walk up to the counter. Great small business idea. We passed through Coopers landing where will be returning in a few days to do a river raft. Hoping to see some wildlife ... read more

Day 24 - Friday August 9th Half way through the tour Anchorage to Kenai 173 miles Soon after leaving the RV park we turned onto the Seward Highway, listed in the Reader's Digest "The Most Scenic Drives in America". A two lane road winding South following the Turnagain Arm of the Cook Inlet. (See the top of the map) A railroad track just below the road followed the same path. Breathtaking views at every turn. Unfortunately it was very cloudy that day and we could not see all of the majesty, but what we saw was magnificent. We stopped at Beluga Point to enjoy the views it was very windy and a chill in the air that will stay with us for the next few days at least. At about 50 miles there was a side ... read more

Last night was the last time we could look out our door and admire the beauty of Homer. We will miss Homer as it is a beautiful little town with lots of charm and great people. If it wasn't so far to pull our trailer, we would definitely spend the summers here. Jackie (bakery friend) was so right to fall in love with this place. The pictures, taken last night, will speak for themselves.... read more

Ron and Joe went down to the bay and did some fishing today. They caught about 25 Pollock but were advised this was not the time of year to eat them. Something about them having worms… They had fun though so it was worth it. I hope they have the same good luck fishing tomorrow in Kenai. They will be fishing for salmon there... We need to fill our freezer with food for the road home. I talked to the Lakey kids today and realized just how much I miss the family. Kaeden did his usual kiss to Gma on the phone and I just wanted to pull him through the phone for a real hug and kiss. Then I got a video from my son-in-law showing the boys riding in their Grandpa's antique car and ... read more

Homer is breathtaking. From our campsite, we look right out onto Kachemak Bay. That is, until a big rig pulls in next to us stealing our view for 24 hours or so. Then it is restored, until the next one. It is a quick climb down to the beach where you can walk forever during low tides. Which I have done several ties, and will do again today. The little church we went to Saturday evening has a big window in back of the altar, again, looking straight out into the bay. Joe and Ron went on a halibut charter yesterday; and each caught his limit of two nice big ones. Yeah! We had baked halibut for dinner last night (would have grilled, but the wind was a bit much). In the afternoon, after the boys ... read more

It was fishing day for Joe and Ron. They both were successful and caught their limits (2) halibut. Joe also snagged two stingrays, but he had to throw them back. It was massage and facial day for Carolyn and I. It was simply wonderful. I received my treatments in a Yurt right by the water. Such a relaxing massage laying their listening to the water hit the shore. We had fresh halibut for dinner and man it was delicious.... read more

Since Joe and I are trying to get a cold we both slept in and didn't do much all day. I did take some great pictures of our view from our front door this afternoon. I am also including some pictures I took at the Pratt Museum of the inside of the old log cabin.... read more
