A sunny and warm morning after last night’s excitement. The day didn’t start out too well. First we spilled coffee and wet coffee grounds all over the galley counter. Big mess. Then we got an email saying the package containing our new transducer could not be delivered to the marina in Demopolis as addressed. It turns out the guy at the marina had given Kerry the physical address, not the PO box where they receive mail.

We stopped at Pirate’s Marina Cove near Bevill Lock and Dam so Sara could get some fuel and be assured of making it to the next fuel stop a little over 100 miles downriver in Demopolis. It was a breezy day and we thought about anchoring in the bay near the marina, but it was too small and the wind was swirling there. So we went back upriver about 2 miles and anchored in the Tombigbee River. Another short day due to dearth of anchorages ahead. It was a beautiful spot and Sara took advantage of the daylight left to row the dinghy around and take pictures.

Sunday, 14 November

We had a little rain overnight, just

enough to leak in my window and get my side of the bed wet. Yuck. I hate when that happens. We locked down through Bevill Lock and were heading downriver again by 9:45. We soon came upon a tow loaded with coal, also heading south, which we managed to pass. We knew Sara and Trevor probably wouldn’t be able to get around it, so we went on ahead to the agreed upon anchorage. We were there at around 1:00, awfully early to stop, but knowing they couldn’t make it to the next anchorage 17 miles away before dark. They finally managed to get to our anchorage nearly an hour later and ran aground twice trying to get to us. They finally turned into this loop of the old river at the southern opening and joined us.

Monday, 15 November

It started raining last night around 9 and hasn’t stopped yet. Since Sara and Trevor have an open cockpit, we all agreed today was a rainout and stayed put in our anchorage. We’re hoping for better weather tomorrow. This is a pretty spot, secure and sheltered, so we’ll just wait it out. They brought over eggs this morning and

we had fried egg sandwiches for breakfast.

I fixed plastic awnings for our v-berth ports yesterday, so no wet bed for us this morning. Sara and Trevor have a few leaks they’re trying to find and caulk (around windows not underwater.) So we have a day of reading, minor repairs and general goofing off.

home
Hi there, sounds like a true adventure. We arrived home on Sat. The services for Mom were very nice and the chapel was almost full. We are fairly pooped, and trying to get ready for the girls next week for Thanksgiving. BYW, how do you cook a turkey on a boat?! Happy Trails, Barb and Jerry
