We took our time getting underway this morning, hitting the road around 10. We headed south on Hwy 22 to Shiloh National Military Park on the Tennessee River south of Savannah. The first weekend of April this year will be the 150th anniversary of the battle for Shiloh, in which more than 27,000 soldiers died. The place has a haunted feeling to it. Kerry and I agreed we wouldn't want to camp there. Seeing the gravestones on the hillsides was sobering. From Shiloh we continued south through Corinth and Tupelo in Mississippi, then east on US 78 to Birmingham, AL. We had intended to camp in Jasper, AL, but never found the campground, so we continued on through Birmingham to Calera, AL.
