Day 25 30/05/2019 Poolside We had the usual breakfast routine this morning with added heavy rain. Off to the pool under the cabanas for the last day of leisure, sun and drinks. We lazed the day away by the pool. A family positioned themselves beside us today and they had brought fruit down to the pool in their bags. There are always a number of animals roaming around the resort looking for food and the racoon type of animal came sniffing around. The teenage children were fascinated by them and the animal started to scrounge around in their bag looking for food so the father grabbed out a banana and broke some of it off and gave it to it. Then the teenage daughter tried to feed it by hand until it snatched the remaining banana ... read more

Day 24 29/05/2019 Pool Day We started the day with the usual morning coffee, croissants and our leisurely walk to the beach buffet. Karly had reserved us the lounges under the cabanas as we thought that it may be quieter and shadier. The pool was home for the day. Today was a day of relaxation after the very busy day yesterday. Sun, sleep, a good book, drinks, and water sport (playing ball) made the perfect day. Even the down pour of rain didn’t dampen our spirits. Let’s face it we didn’t get wetter by being rained upon when we were in the pool. Pina Coladas and mudslides were the drinks of choice today. For dinner tonight we decided that we would start at the pizza and taco eat outs to have entre there and then moved ... read more

Day 23 28/05/2019 Xcaret We met Karly and Scott at the coffee shop as usual to start our day with coffee and croissants. We had our usual beach buffet for breakfast this morning as we discussed our plans for today. We decided that we would spend the morning exploring the park by foot and then the afternoon would consist of water activities. We waited at the designated place at the hotel waterway for the boat to come and take us to the park. We boarded the boat and the man used a long pole to push us down the waterway to the park. We could have walked quicker as it was only a 5 minute walk to the entrance. We followed the path to the aviary. We entered a large netted area where we saw all sorts ... read more

DAY 22 27/05/2019 Poolside We started the day with coffee and croissants again. Karly had woken up early to go down and reserve our pool lounges for the day. Breakfast again was at the beach buffet as it had amazing views out into the Atlantic Ocean. It is so good being at the resort as you do not have to worry about what you wear as you get up and put our bathers on and stay like that all day until dinner. We decided that we needed to put our feet into the Atlantic Ocean so we ventured into the man made beach. Next stop for the day was poolside. Pina Coladas for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea is my idea of a relaxing holiday. We were lucky enough to get 4 lounge chairs in ... read more

Day 21 26/05/2019 Tulum (Mayan Ruins) Up early for our amazing beach buffet breakfast and back to the front of the lobby for the tour of the Mayan ruins. The coach picked us up and we had about a 50 minute drive down to the site. Once we arrived we met our guide who is from Mayan decent that would be taking us around and explaining the history and important information. Everywhere we went there were iguanas and they choose either the top of a rock or fence up high or in the sun next to a rock. The Mayan people can be traced back to 15,000 years ago and came from Mongolia and they were a highly intelligent race. They used astronomy to create calendars in which they used to plant crops and track the ... read more

Day20 25/05/2019 Occidential We had a sleep in and then decided to get into our bathers and then head to the beach buffet. In the resort they have placed pairs of Macaw birds in small trees and they stay there all day and do not try to fly away or hurt the tourists. It was about a 10 minute walk on pathways in fairly dense jungle. We saw lots of birds flying around and small animals that looked similar to a quoka that they said was a rodent and they call them Amigos. They don’t have tails and are about the size of a possum. They are not scared of us at all and just kept looking for their food. There were so many Iguanas on the walk down to breakfast, and they too are not ... read more

Day 19 24/05/2019 Edmonton – Occidential at Xcaret Mexico Wow a short night sleep and the alarm went off at 4.30 am so that we could finish packing our case and hand luggage to be out the door just after 5. Rob very kindly said that he would drive Scott, Karly, Ron and me to the airport. Once we checked in we boarded the first flight to Calgary and then after a quick change of flight we boarded the 5 hour flight to Cancun. I took the opportunity to snooze on the plane and then we arrived. I must say that the Cancun airport is very modern, extremely clean and quite easy to navigate through. Once through customs and immigration we headed outside and bang! The heat and humidity hit us with a vengeance. We found ... read more

"If you're not lighting any candles, don't complain about being in the dark". ~ If there's one thing I would suggest, don't ever complain on social media about any little setbacks you're having while you're on a tropical vacation. Especially when you've escaped the bowels of winter hell like we did. No one will feel sorry for you, nor should they. In fact they may print off your picture & attach it to a dart board. Well maybe they will feel sorry for you if you've been hit by a car, kidnapped by pirates, been in an earthquake, stung by a jellyfish, or stranded by United Airlines for days without any help ? (I just had to throw that one in from our awful trip home in 2017 with them, not once but twice, the same ... read more

"Our friendship isn't a big thing, in fact it's a million things"...~ Now where did I leave off? It's been 2 weeks since I did my one & only blog for this friend & family trip. Rest assured I was not abducted by the Pirates of the Caribbean (no matter how hard I tried...some of those pirates are hunky!) Although we did run into a Johnny Depp look-a-like dressed for the Vegas style act they have here at Coco Bongo! Literally he had Captain Sparrow's swagger and alcohol fueled accent. Hiccup. I have been working on this blog for a week now. It's been a combination of being busy with family, doing a bit of work, and the rest being plain lazy. I swear if there was an award for laziness & I won, I'd probably ... read more
