"A good friend listens to your adventures. A best friend makes them with you..." ~" Well that old saying about 'making hay while the sun shines' applied to us on the last few days of our trip. Friday was overcast so we did the tour of the CEDAM, the nautical museum. Outside the museum there's a big cannon and a giant diving bell welcoming you to the museum. While the museum is small, it offers free admission and packs a good punch of information on the region's ship wrecks. The museum's floor is designed with fine sand over wooden slats which I think is intended to bring you back in time, making you feel perhaps you're on an old steamer ship. The museum does a great job of showcasing artifacts, memorabilia, maps, and the ... read more

"Look closely. The beautiful may be small."~ This trip we've really had a chance to stop and smell the roses. Or in this case a chance to stop and stare at the bodacious African red tulip tree which let me tell you is in a category all of its own. Rich bold red color and large scooped-shape blossoms, which makes you stop in your tracks and admire its beauty. There's no doubt that when traveling with kids/family, you are much more inclined to be distracted and caught up with their well-being and needs. But this trip we've been free as the breeze to do as we please. Which is explore, and take the time to sight-see extensively at a leisurely pace. No trying to please everyone over day trips, and then being mule-packs to get from ... read more

"Don't sweat the petty things, and don't pet the sweaty things" ~ Al's out taking photos so I had some quiet time on the patio to send off a little blog. Continuing to wake to beautiful weather every morning - no rain except one downpour one night last week. And we've been having much hotter weather too. It's a highlight each morning to eagerly see if that old iguana will come out onto the lawn and lift his head to the sun, then slowly but surely make his way up on the big rock. That poor old guy has had it tough. We were told he was found near death some time ago. Nobody knows what happened to him, but they discovered he'd suffered a broken leg, and when you see him move, you do see ... read more

"Let's find a beautiful place to get lost"... ~ I sort of feel like I've been blind-folded, then spun around, and then put before my computer to write a blog & try and remember what we did and when. Sitting outside on the terrace on Domingo (Sunday) having a coffee, and watching the sunrise at 7:30 a.m. almost on the dot. A little sliver of apricot was hiding behind a cloud, and it was over quick. When the cloud moved there was the sun's round face in all her glory smiling at me. I'm trying to type up the blog in some timeline, so between pictures and pretending that I'm having a chat with mom on the phone (which makes it easier to put it in some format) I hope it all comes together. (My Mom ... read more

"Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it"... ~ WEDS/THURSDAY Hola amigos! Up early, sitting outside with the warm breeze on my face typing till my heart's content. (I'm a bit behind time-wise in my blogs). The ocean is calmer today than the past few days. Wednesday the waves were so rough it looked like there was six feet of snow coming at me. What an illusion to have given I'm in a tropical land. (Sorry for you blokes back in Ottawa getting the real stuff!) We've also been spellbound by a little hummingbird who likes to feed off the nectar of flowering aloe vera plant on our patio. (Please see the pictures Al took to the right). It's not easy to capture a picture of a humming bird due to their speed, but ... read more

"The quieter you become, the more you can hear". Ssshh...what is that sound? I can barely identify it because I don't hear it very often. It's the sound of silence...Ahhhhh. The sigh heard around the world. Most of you can relate to waking up on vacation on the first day, in a new place & having no darn idea where the heck you are! (And I'm not referring to the dance with a bottle of Tequila the night before when you were young & foolish & waking up in a ditch...) I'm talking that first morning on holidays when you wake up in unfamiliar surroundings and have to give your head a shake and adjust your eyes to realize, oh we're in Mexico! When I woke yesterday morning it was to the very distinctive sound of ... read more

"We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us". ~ I love a good quote, but whoever coined the above phrase never had kids or a crappy job because who the heck would they be fooling?! Of COURSE we travel to escape life! And quite often we travel to escape freezing cold temperatures like we've had at home. It's been so cold that irritated drivers aren't giving each other the finger, they're giving the mitten. (Smile) TWO FOR TEQUILA Happy to report Allan & I have escaped on a couple-only getaway. Insert loud trumpet sound here! In our 19 years together, we've only had one trip alone, and that was back in 2014 to Isla Mujeres and I hadn't had that much fun since I got kicked out of religion class :) ... read more

It's the second day since Nina and I arrived at home from our awesome Mexican Riviera vacation. Two days it's taken me to write this final blog because I'm no longer on vacation.. 'no more extra time for things like sleepin' in, breakfast, drinkin' tequila shots, blogging, etc. haha! Back to reality of jobs, bills, etc.! Only four hours after arriving at home from the airport, I was gettin' dressed up for work and worked all day yesterday(Monday).. same for Nina, she left home yesterday around the same time. But, it's great to be back.. home sweet home :) The day before, Sunday, we spent literally all day in planes and airports traveling from Cancun.. aside from the 1 hour taxicab ride from our resort in Puerto Aventuras to the airport. On Sunday morning, we woke ... read more

Buenos días amigos! 'Had buffet breakfast at 930am in Las Brisas then 'went for a walk on the beach with Nina. Afterwards, 'walked over to the pool area and played table tennis(ping-pong!). We played 5 sets(I would tell y'all I won all of them, but that would be un-gentleman like, so I won't;) Afterwards, we walked over to the front lobby and checked out a couple of rackets & a tube of balls so we could play real tennis lol. But before going to the courts, we decided to go to the gym so we could do some cardio to warm up before playing.. more elliptical action! lol The tennis courts are actually situated on top of a 5-story building. By the time we got up there, the cloud cover had cleared so it was very ... read more

'Woke up around 5am this day and started writing/typing my blogs.. compiling notes and uploading all photos from the last few days. Yesterday, Nina and I agreed to wake up early(630am), have breakfast, workout , then catch a ride to Xplor(a nearby amusement that involves a lot of awesome outdoor activities that are both dynamic and very engaging.. such as zip-lining, rappelling, driving an ATV through the jungle, etc. So at 630am, I started trying to wake Nina up.. no surprise there lol. At 645am, I tried again.. and again, no success. 715, 730, 8, and finally I gave up trying lol. 'Seems yesterday's physical activities really took a toll on her body.. she was very sore, 'like never I've seen before. Our elliptical session, her weights session, and our unplanned water aerobics+dance lesson did her ... read more
