Bonnie and I came back to Mexico from Guatemala. We went diving in Cenotes around Tulum and Playa del Carmen, and had a few dives in the Ocean near Playa del Carmen. And Silvester in Cancun...:-) Diving in the ocean was special we wanted to see sharks, and we saw some at "Jardines". Just a few hundred meters away from the pier at Playa del Carmen. On the left you can see the reflection at the halocline, the separation layer between saltwater and freshwater. The saltwayer lies under the freshwater.

when a diver enters the halocline it is stirred up and creates something like an oily layer, blurry and fuzzy.

In Playa del Carmen they offer this service for a lot of money. In the Cenotes you may get it for free. and it feels funny:

Dec. 30th. This is how stalagtites look like when they just enter the water.

A crab in the the system Casa Cenote. Its an open system and just before it enters the sea the stream of water enters a cave system. Casa cenote has some saltwater, but also a freshwater stream enters the ssytem from the caves.

Mangroves are the kindergarden of many fish. So many little fish!
