Hola amigos!
We put in a great "first official day" here yesterday. I rang the cow bell around 7:30 am to wake those that said they wanted to take a walk on the beach. Ava found a big coconut and carried it all the way down the beach. Her new friend; Cokie!
We headed down towards the ferry, to see those fruit ladies I had written about on my last trip. Being only 8 a.m. they were just setting up their stands. But one of the ladies offered to make us some fresh fruit cups. She sliced up THE sweetest pineapple and watermelon we've ever tasted. We then strolled up 5th which at that time of the day is very quiet, not its usual bustling self.
We enjoyed breakfast by the pool, and had Adin our beach server set up our loungers on prime beachfront.
Between riding the waves, reading, and swimming in the pool, we took advantage of the sunny day. For lunch we ordered 2 platters of chicken faitas from Fusion restaurant next door. Adin delivered it right to our condo. It was really great, excellent sizzling chicken, and some of the BEST nacho chips
and guacamole we've ever tasted. We supplemented a few hot dogs and a salad to round out the menu.
We took a walk down the beach so I could show Al some of the bars I enjoy going to. 😉 We were heading to the Blue Parrot to see the server Armando when I was greeted by him at another bar. (How he remembered me on a crowded beach where people are constantly walking by is a mystery; must be my Nike cap!) He proceeded to tell me he left Blue Parrot for La Pirata restarurant; more money and shorter hours. Anyhow, he asked if I wanted my "regular"...now I wasn't sure if this was a good or a bad thing he remembered my drinking habits but what the hell, I took it as a compliment. He made me a huge margarita; cheaper than the other bar, and he made the girls these huge strawberry/banana smoothies! We swung on the bar swings listening to some Latin music. Heaven...
Around 5ish we headed over to the bar next door that has a live band on the beach; what a great setting, lanterns on the tables, and torches lit all
around the beach. Apparently we missed the belly dancing by about half an hour; Al seemed to be particularly depressed about that 😉 (hahaha Al, no belly dancing for you today!!) A 3 piece jazz band was playing and they were pretty good. We made a reservation to go back for 8:30 pm to hear another Latin band playing and to see the "fire show" that Rory's been dying to go and see.
After a dinner of parmesan chicken, roasted potatoes, salad and fresh bread, we got dolled up to head out. Our neighbors across from us are from Calgary and BC and their kids have been playing with Ava. So they joined us for the evening.
The fire show was absolutely amazing with some feats of bravery seeing the performers ensconced in fire! There's 3 guys who play the bongos while they perform which heightens the level of excitement. The kids were pretty fascinated as were the adults. It was a great way to end what was a pretty grand day altogether.
"May your days be filled with relaxing sunsets, cool drinks and sand between your toes..." Signing off on a warm beautiful morning! (see
