It was "created" following a serious hurricane, which damaged the port of Cozumel to the north. Back then, we didn't even leave the purpose-built shopping and tourist village. With more time to research this time, we booked a beach break through a private company. An American family bought land and built a small beach resort several years ago, and they cater to cruise ship groups. It is an all-inclusive place (drinks, food, activities) and they cap the number of people who visit, so it is never crowded and they focus on service.
