Weather websites predicted a wet afternoon for Cancun today. So instead of a lazy morning, we got up and walked over to Market 28. This was a full square block of shops. It looks really cool with stall after stall after stall. However, the majority of them carry the same or similar stuff. We wandered about an hour around the place and purchased nothing. At least we enjoyed the walking around. We were drenched with sweat the walk back because the humidity. Hungry we stopped at a place that sold quesadillas for $13 Pesos or about $0.65 each. It was a bit of a wait due to the line but worth it with the homemade tortillas and fresh cooked food. We chose to wait out the rain instead of battle it. I started a new book ... read more

Rough start today, Alex's stomach issues continued until about noon. It made for a muy mal (very bad, in Spanish) night and morning for Alex. So we lounged in the room, even watched Princess Mononoke on his laptop. Lucky for WiFi to keep us entertained and in touch with the world. We tried a couple granola bars to make sure his tummy was good to go before deciding on an activity for the day. Once we decided he was good, we headed over to the Plaza Las Americas. This was described as an up and coming area online and turns out it is now a huge mall. To play it safe, we got lunch at Chili's. There was an ice skating/gymnastics show on TV, so I shared with Alex my mom's love of both sports and ... read more

Ahhh, the joy of sleeping in. We have only plans for the evening so we spent the morning laying in bed reading, writing, and getting mortgage loan stuff in order. For breakfast, we book a short break to skip on over to the grocery store and grab some breads and donuts. Then back to the apartment to munch on them and continue being bums. We did make plans for our afternoon. Alex needed printed off pages signed for the loan so we hit up the Internet cafe to start our adventures. They had no idea what a fax was so we ended up scanning the documents. Amazing how outdated an advanced country like the US can be with those types of requests. Business out of the way we grabbed a cab right outside the store (luckily ... read more

Like most of my travel, it started with a visit to The Parking Spot to drop off my car and get shuttled to the airport. This time felt weird though because I left my keys for Alex's roommate to come pick up the car. Our shuttle nabbed Alex, I, and one other family before heading to the airport. Alex speculated they were going to Cancun. I said I doubted it since so many flights leave early. However thanks to our driver confirming our gate and airline, the mom asked if we happened to be going to Cancun like them. I think the driver was secretly trying to help them because they couldn't figure out which terminal and gate they needed to go to. An early arrival at the airport (5:10), turned out to be well needed. ... read more

Well im leaving Cali again. Last year we had a little bit of a party that rolled into my ride down to the airport. This year not the same! Hahaha...but it was a bit interesting in that the Greyhound bus stop was just on the side of the road on some street. A bit disconcerting when no one else was at the stop at 9:40am when the bus was supposed to leave at 9:40am....anyways, it showed up 10 minutes later and I was off! I arrived in San Francisco 8 hours later to catch a metro to the airport. I am still not a fan of public transport in strange places cuz you just never know...idk...born and raised in rural Minnesota might have that effect. So when 8 people on the subway asked if this stop ... read more

Dear All Greetings from the Mexican Caribbean coast! Cancun to be exact. I have made it to the last destination on my summer travels 2016, and plan to spend the next 24 hours holed up in my extremely comfortable, air-conditioned Ibis hotel room, resting up on my journey and in preparation for my flight home tomorrow evening. It has been a wonderful trip, though I shall have time to reflect more in my final missive which I plan to upload upon arrival back home in Croydonia. This one intends to relate my travels of the last few days, since my last update which I believe I wrote in a similar situation from Merida: holed up taking a duvet day, at the Ibis hotel in Merida – actually, the room is pretty much exactly the same, exactly ... read more

As reported last time, I didn’t have the most ideal last night in Belize and when I awoke early to get the hell out of there, the aftermath of what was a crazy night was laid bare – literally – in the morning light. Used condom on the floor. A naked guy spooning a naked girl in one bunk. Another naked girl spread-eagled on her bed in another bunk. What the hell happened last night? Well, I don’t know about the naked people, but I knew what happened to me the previous night – bedbug bites, again, and lots of them. I didn’t feel them during the night this time, which was unusual (developing a tolerance, perhaps?) but during the course of the day, they all began to pop up at various times. FFS.
