Morning in Cancun
This is what we awoke to after a tumultuous night!!! After a night where nobody was able to sleep comfortably, we woke up pretty early in the morning thankful that nobody tried to murder or rob us in the middle of the night. When I moved the balcony curtains to see our view, I was amazed at what I saw. For only about $40 dollars, our room had an amazing ocean view. It was definitely the best view I had ever had from a hotel room! During my morning shower, I was startled to see that I was not alone. Geckos were walking around in the shower with me! This hotel not only had geckos but the hugest cockroaches I had ever seen. For breakfast, we wandered into town where being the Americans that we are, we had McDonald's. After breakfast, we gathered our things and were thankful that we were leaving this hotel. I would never imagine that a hotel with such an exceptional location would be so run-down. We hailed a taxi to drive us to our resort for the remainder of our stay, The Royal Islander. The resort was absolutely amazing complete with a restaurant and small grocery store. It was a cashless resort and all guests
were issued cards to have everything charged to. At the end of your stay, you would then pay for your entire bill. This would definitely be a dangerous thing as we all would eventually lose track of how much we were spending. The Royal Islander also had an amazing pool that included a swim up bar. Our room was in a good location, on the ground level nearby the swimming pool. It was almost like a condominium. There was a full kitchen, dining room, living room, 2 bathrooms, and 2 bedrooms. Patrice and Christina shared one bedroom while Vern and Bill shared the other. I agreed to just sleep on the coach in the living room.
We spent the rest of the morning and afternoon hanging out on the beach. We ordered drinks and snacks, swam in the ocean, and rented boogie-boards. This is what Cancun is all about! After the beach, we made our way over to the pool. After swimming around for a few minutes, we all eventually made our way to the swim-up bar and proceeded to get drunk on their pina-coladas and munch on their delicious mozzarella sticks. Later that night, we decided to
hit up the town. We found a small bar called Slice's and went here to start the night off. We ordered a few drinks and were constantly bothered by these annoying staff members who kept coming by blowing their whistles. They would then try to force one of us to take a shot of some cheap alcohol they were selling. Everybody fell for their trap except me. I was way too cool for fall for that!!! Afterwards, we all wanted to go somewhere to dance. So we made our way to a club called Coco Bongo. We stood in line for what seemed like forever. Once we got inside, we were herded around like a bunch of cattle. There was some kind of show going on up in the rafters where performers were dressed like 80's pop stars and performing their hits. There was no place to sit and we were forced to just stand there and watch the show. This is not what we expected when we came here. We wanted to dance and this place seemed to have none of that. Christina found an employee and complained about the situation. She was very persistent and stood her ground.
The Cancun Crew
Our sketchy hotel room Eventually, they agreed to refund our money back to us and led us out through a back entrance. After that, nobody was really in a mood to go to another place, so we just made our way back to the resort.
