Hello again, Sorry about the delay on this post, I have been a bit busy. Well after three weeks here I have landed one job at a high school. The job pay is pretty low and the hours are few, but it is a start. The classes are only 4 students each so I hope they can really improve their English with such small class sizes. I have also been in contact with a non-profit English language group called The Anglo. The school pays a good wage and is flexible with hours, aside from that they are also located about 3 blocks from my house. The problem is that both the Mexican gov. and the Anglo have a lot of hoops to jump through to make it work. Let’s say I have gone through half of ... read more

Hey Guys, So after almost two weeks I am starting to get into the swing of things. The internet in my apartment is spochy so I have to go down to the common area to use it. My room is clean but a bit boring with the empty white walls. From my windo I have a view of mountains volcanoes and a skyscrpaer that is part of a mall. The tower itself seems to be empty and more just for show rather than actual purpose. I can now get to the center and back easily and know my way around decently. Life here is not as slow as it was in Chile. It is Mexico, but it is a large city (3 million) and for me it is taking some getting used to. I have leads ... read more

Hi Everyone, The travel blog is back! I just made it to Puebla and am started to get settled in. Thankfully my spanish is coming back very quickly. I made it after one bus to Chicago, a flight to Monterrey then to Mexico DF. In Mexico Fernanda came to get me at the airport and we then took a bus to Puebla where I found my new home. I have what is basically one room with bedroom and bath, and a wall dividing the two. It is very nice though. The city is pretty big and I am a bit intimidated still, hopefully that will change soon. Yesterday I went around and got to know the city ( a bit) and bought a few necessities. I haven't gotten sick yet and have been eating some great ... read more

Hi! A few years ago when I was a student in my last travel, I went to Puebla, Mexico. Puebla is one of the important cities in Mexico and it has many attractions such as tourism, food, archeologic zones, history. Also Puebla is an industrial city. However the security is good, so you don´t have to worry. You can walk relaxed in the street and look around. Puebla is a beautiful city and it has fascinating churches in each corner. Also Pubela has breathtaking historic places, museums and a lot of entertainment centers suchs as discos, bars, big cinemas, theaters and exclusive shops. In addition, the people are very friendly, helpful and honest and the food is delicious. There are typical dishes such as "cemitas" which are "tortas" but with special ingredents and an other dish ... read more

We leave the very nice B&B hotel Casa de la Tia Tere this morning and head to the toll road to Puebla. It is every bit as nice as we heard the toll roads are: well-paved, well-marked, not much traffic, and safe. We see the occasional Policia Federal but mostly enforcement of speed limits is by radar which translates to not applicable to us since we have Honduran license plates and there is absolutely no way they will be able to track us down. Not that we go much faster than the 70 mph (110 km) speed limit anyway, it's just the principle, not having to worry. The scenery along the way is varied, beginning in the mountains then passing through flat, open somewhat barren terrain with a couple different type of cactus, then finally into ... read more

29/4/09 = A day of visiting churches Another bad nights sleep. Took ages to drift off and even when did, woke up every hour or so. Got up at 7am; at rash on leg has gone. Is now just a scar, a bit like the remains of a jellyfish sting. Another text from a friend about Pig Flu - seems to be a much bigger deal at home than it is out here - and headed down for not so tasty toast, but very tasty cereal. Ready and out of the door at 10am. Could have been been ready early, but no point, nothing opens early in Mexico. Headed down ‘sweet street’, so named because all shops sell sweets and candy. Should have been a really cool street to walk down, but even at 10am, most ... read more

29th APRIL 2009 - ANOTHER DAY IN PUEBLA!! I woke up at around 8am. 4 hours sleep yet still functioning...not sure how!! I didn't feel too cracking unsurprisingly but I was looking forward to another busy day. Once ready we went for breakfast downstairs. Teeny tiny bowl of cornflakes which were nice and toast with sweet butter which wasn't so nice!! We also got a brew and some juice. The breakfasts are getting better though I do miss my Special K!! At around 10am we headed into Puebla. We had decided to visit some of the attractions today as we had wandered around it enough yesterday. Our first job however was to continue the hunt for a journal for Nat. Nothing was open...10am and nothing open!! I had heard of siestas but not lie-ins. We thought ... read more

28/4/09 = The Beautiful Puebla Got up early today at 7:30am in preparation for early set off to Puebla. Got changed, packed and had breakfast at 8am. Not the usual awful toast, but a toasted cheese sandwich and a yoghurt instead - things had left over from yesterday. Finished packing process then and checked out at 9am for walk to tube station. Walk never bothered me before, but with 20kg bags, it was soon starting to. Did I mention how hot it is in Mexico!?! And why aren’t these bags ever getting any lighter? Glad when we got there, although not glad about having to put awful face mask back on. More and more people wearing them each day we go there. Got our 2peso ticket and the same 3 tubes to take us to bus ... read more

28th APRIL 2009 - WALKING THE STREETS OF PUEBLA!! I got woken up at around 6.30am by a girl leaving. That meant I had had around 30 minutes sleep as I only dropped of at 6am anyway...not good and I felt a little rubbish to put it mildly!! I jumped in the shower to try and wake myself up and clear my head. Nothing like a little bit of freezing cold water to make you feel better eh?!! Once we were both up and ready, we went down for breakfast. I was not hungry at all...think I was too tired to eat! I forced a banana in for a little energy and then we set off to the tube station with our backpacks. The more you carry them the worse it gets...you certainly don't get used ... read more
