http://www.heygo.com 3rd March - The Pyramid of Cholula - Dedicated to the god Quetzalcoatl in the San Andrés Cholula, Puebla municipality of Mexico. Originally constructed over 2000 years ago, the Great Pyramid of Tepanapa (often referred to as the Great Pyramid of Cholula) boasts a larger volume than any other ancient, man-made structure including the Egyptian pyramids. Stylistically, the pyramid is an oddity, puzzling archeologists to this day by incorporating architectural elements of both the Teotihuacan and El Tajin civilizations. During the many pre-Columbian power shifts in Mexico, the pyramid itself fell out of use in favor of other structures, such as one of the many sacrificial altars on the ten-acre site. It is unclear whether it was through disuse that the pyramid became overgrown with shrubbery, or if, when the Aztecs caught w... read more

We crossed the dangerous (no wall but a fence) border at Nogales. This has to be one of the easiest crossings. You just drive past the American huts, along the two lane highway, get waved over have a quick chat with the Mexican guard and off you go. You stop at Km 21 where you get your vehicle import sticker (TIP) and your six month tourist card. Or not, in the case of one couple we met at San Carlos who forgot to stop and had to drive all the way back! When you meet up with other travellers it is always fun to chat and exchange a few “Crossing the border” stories. Most of us have had some sort of hassle, mainly from the US because they just don’t appear to know the rules or ... read more

Left our beautiful spot just outside Mexico city for a short journey to Cholula. A short drive, high price .tolls and not the best roads but we managed. !st toll Tuxpan cuota, took ticket off at San Martin 245 pesos, 2nd toll 79 pesos. Took a Taxi to the City of Pueblo and what a beautiful place it is. Founded in 1575 The lovely Cathedral took 200 years to build. It has 50 angels protecting it from the electrical storm that are very common in the rainy season. There are over 200 historical buildings in the downtown area. Fuerte de Loreto where the 1st battle was in 1862, the french battle with Dueglo and a church built on top of a pyramid. A must see for anyone passing through these parts.... read more

As I had said earlier I chose to stay in Mexico City and do day trips every second day . It was a good balance for me as in the city I would walk and walk and walk and walk and it was good to sit and ride a bus /van and have a guide on alternate days . I do think it would be good to stay in some of the places I visited for each has it's own character , remarkable architecture , and food specialties ! Maybe another time . So , here are some pics from Cholula and Puebla . Cuernavaca , Taxco and Teotihuacan will come later .... read more

Hello Everyon! Well I know I have been lacking on my blogging lately. It could be for a few reasons, first of all the internet at my apartment is useable about %60 of the time and when it works it is usually slow and frustrating, or the because I have been a bit busy getting paperwork together and preparing classes. The most likely is that it is really a combination of the two. Usualy when I get on the internet here I come to check my email and send emails, and that being frustrating enough I usually stop at that. So, I would like to apologize and hope that these 2 blogs will make up for the lack of blogging this past month. So here in Puebla things are great, it has stopped raining for the ... read more

Okay, so I am back in Mexico and I will shortly be updating all of you with what has been going on on this trip, but first I would like to post a blog I wrote a while ago about some of mi recuerdos de Cholula (my memories of Cholula). I am sitting on the plane on making my way back to the States and I just realized that this is the end of my Mexican adventures for some time. When we took off the sun was just rising over Malinche and it was beautifully clear; I had never noticed that it looked like woman lying down, very interesting. Anyways as I listen to my new Mexican club mix that was made for my departure, I want to take the time to write down the places ... read more

It very much disheartens and saddens me to inform all of you that I will be returning to the United States this coming Monday, June 4th, almost four weeks before my expected time of arrival. We will be missing out on Veracruz and our weeklong service project in Cuetzalan, but it was decided that it was better to be safe than sorry. The truth is you never know what it is going to be like in four weeks. Although sometimes my mom thinks she is God, unfortunately even she cannot tell me what is going to happen tomorrow. So at this point in time I am ready for my departure; we have had a difficult past four days. For those of you who are not bombarded with fifty emails daily on this matter, it started on ... read more

30th APRIL 2009 - PIRAMIDE A CHOLULA & HOSTEL NIGHTMARE AT OAXACA!! Once again I did not sleep well. Around 4 hours of restless sleep...not good!! I got up at 8ish after admitting defeat and went to shower. Worst shower ever too...the seal seemed to have broken on the shower head and water spurted everywhere. I tried to swap showers quickly as there was no one else in the bathroom but just as I made my naked dash, Nat came in and caught me in my full glory!! Sooo embarrassed and I am sure it wouldn't have been the nicest thing for her to see when she woke up either!! Still...least it was Nat and not a stranger!! Note to self...never do a naked shower dash in a shared bathroom!! Once both dressed and ready we ... read more
