i loved watching all of the protests that would happen on the street outside our school, there were lots of different reasons for the protests- change in oaxaca, change in mexico 2010, indigenous rights, student rights, disability rights, etc.

we decided to see a movie on the cheap day. worst movie ever! case 39 with renee zellweger, she plays a terrible social worker named emily. i was ticked.

one of our favorite parts of el BAResito was their juke box. eventually they started telling us that if they turned it on for us we had to stop playing metal every time we came in.

when in a new country and you are trying to understand the language and culture, you make many mistakes and then try to act cool. for example, this represents how graham thought his hard plastic drink stirrer was actually a straw and he tried sipping through it while the waitress was watching.

this represents me when i tried to act really cool and tell the waiter en español that i loved the cold french fries (papas) when in fact they were jicamas.

this represents the time we entered el baresito and tages assumed the napkin holders were table reservation holders so we crammed ourselves way in the back.

One of the most meaningful things I did in Oaxaca was participate in Fundacion En Via (formerly called Investours). We visited 6 women in Teotitlán to check out their small business venture needs and the money we paid for the tour went directly to an interest free loan to help them out.

Teotitlán was one of the first villages founded by the Zapotecs in this area in 1465 and it still retains its Zapotec culture and language.
