In the morning I woke up early. The breakfast was fresh and delicious, Mexican beans, eggs, fruit and coffee. It was a really nice change from Guatemala and El Salvador, with an abundance of good food and facilities. The hostel was busy. I decided to book another night to relax, although unfortunately they informed me that they were full. I wasn’t the only person that had this problem, there were others having to find another hostel because it was fully booked.
I switched hostel, and went exploring the city. Oaxaca was really nice, much more European feeling, with cobbled streets and streetlights. I went down to the markets, where they had a lot of different foods and goods. There were crickets flavored with spice, mezcal with snakes inside and Oaxaca cheese which was a bit like a halloumi cheese string. It was really tasty, and very filling. I also got a drink, it was like water but chocolate flavored and with some topping too. It was fresh and delicious. After exploring the markets and seeing all of the food, I was beginning to feel hungry so stopped by a small makeshift shop selling tacos. It was great to be in Mexico
eating local Mexican Street food. After lunch I visited the main square, known as the “zocalo” in Mexican cities. There was a Cathedral and many restaurants around the square. I returned to the hostel to plan for the following day and dinner. I joined a couple of guys from the hostel eating in a small restaurant on the zocalo. We ordered fajitas and spent the evening drinking Mexican beers and margaritas.
