Around Laguna Chapala, the malecón (mah le CONE) is where life happens. A malecón is any boardwalk or cement walkway around a waterfront. When Frida, the dog, was still with us at this house, I took her for a walk there one weekday. I could have shot a scattergun and not hit anyone. It was deserted except the poor kid who has to charge five pesos to use the public restroom. One or two other folks flitted in and out, but TODAY! Today it was jumping. The parking lot was full of cars. Guys sitting on their cars drinking and listening to music. People were walking around with their families, mothers pushing strollers, kids running and jumping. There was a young lady having pictures done for her quincenera, a giant party almost every Mexican girl has ... read more

Friday, January 10 I have wanted to spend a day at the hot springs since we first arrived in Mexico. They are just on the other side of Ajijic in a town called San Juan Cosala. Finally, today was to be the day. Mary Anne Joined us, we hopped on the local bus and rode through town. As we passed the outskirts of Ajijic we watched for landmarks as a hint as to when we should get off the bus. Soon everyone on the bus joined in to make sure we got off at the right stop. We now know the landmarks and it’s very easy. We found the entrance less than a block from the bus stop to what we thought was the one and only Hot Spring Spa at this location. However, after meeting ... read more

We've been pretty busy down here. Jim has been going to the farm almost daily, but we took a couple of days off and went out to eat a couple of times. One place we went is San Juan Cosala - there are many open air places to stop and eat....and drink right beside the lake. Another place we went to was on the west side of Jocotopec - it's a place where there is a big brick pit built with a fire going in it. There is meat stuck on a huge metal stick and stuck right into the ground beside the fire....it's tended until the meat has been cooked perfectly. The day we were there , the available meats were lamb, pork, sausage, and quail. We ordered them all and had a taste of ... read more

I've seen and experienced so much that I don't even know where to start or what everyone would be interested in hearing, so I guess I'll just babble! The other problem I have is that we're on 2 computers out here - the old Acer desktop and the new Toshiba laptop we donated. All my pictures are on the Toshiba, so what I'll try and do is just add a new blog with mostly pics. We spent a couple of days in Puerta Vallarta at a bed and breakfast place that is really off the beaten path in the older part of town. I'll write a seperate blog about our experiences there. We're now settled in with Marie and Wendee in Jocotopec which is on the shores of Lake Chapala which is the biggest lake in ... read more
