Today we’re back in Acapulco and I was able to get a pass for a tour I’ve been eyeing since coming to the Spirit. We started out driving through Acapulco with our guide telling us about the city and country. We went to the far end of the city in a direction I hadn’t been yet so that was interesting for me. Then we turned away from the bay and headed up over the mountain. We stopped at a lookout spot over the bay for some photos. About half an hour outside of Acapulco we reached our destination - “Three Sticks Lagoon” (I didn’t catch the proper name in Spanish, just the translation). There we boarded small motorboats to explore the lagoon. As we cruised around, we were on the lookout for different types of birds ... read more

Our regular itinerary has us in port in Acapulco from noon until 1am. We usually sail into the bay around 11am. And while this is a very late hour for normal people, when I work until the early morning hours and I sleep in the bottom of the ship where you don’t see daylight, I’ve never been able to take in the view of the sail into port. I’ve watched the sailaway, but that’s at night. This cruise however, our itinerary is swapped around and we’re in Acapulco during the daytime only. We sailed at 5pm local time, as the sun was beginning to set, making for a gorgeous sailaway. My afternoon activity was planned out on the deck anyway, though I didn’t have any teens come out. The holiday season has officially passed. My co-director has gone home and I am on my own in the club. The number of youth onboard has gone down and we are now in “quiet” season. But considering that, I am so busy right now! While don’t have a large number of teens onboard, those who are participating in my program are there non-stop. There is always a group of them in the club, doing every activity. Of course, this is the way we want the program to run, so this is great. But I am so worn out! Adding to this, I’ve decided to apply to graduate school. The application is extensive and the deadline is soon, so anytime I haven’t been working, I’ve been working on the application. Busy days are followed by late nights. ... read more

It’s Christmas Eve and I’m in Acapulco. And I’m working much of the day. But the upside is the first part of my work day is taking teens out on a tour, so at least I’m outside and enjoying the port. Today’s teen tour took us by bus through Acapulco. The streets were so busy with everyone doing last minute holiday things and going to wherever they would spend the holiday. All the shop windows had signs for Christmas sales and some street vendors were even selling decorations. Then we headed through the country side and out to Coyuca Lagoon. We boarded a small motorboat - just me, the four teens I was taking on tour and a woman travelling on her own. The lagoon was huge and the scenery surrounding it was beautiful. We spent ... read more

This week our regular itinerary is switched around a bit. Usually when we’re in Acapulco, we’re there from noon until 1am. With this itinerary, it’s 6am-5pm. The regular itinerary is perfect for crew like me who work late - I can sleep in, then have a full afternoon and early evening out before having to come back to work. So today, it meant getting up early in order to get a good chunk of a day outside. A group of us met in the morning and took a taxi to a hotel/resort called Villa Vera. They allow the public to come and swim in their pool, drink from their pool side bar and eat in their restaurant. So that’s just what we did. The hotel’s grounds are beautiful. It’s set up on the hill with views ... read more

We departed the Fairmont Acapulco Princess after a 3 day stay and took a taxi up the Costera Alleman to Las Brisas. It was unbelieveable to see all of the new construction that has taken place on this road since our last trip here in 2000. We turned right at the familiar white and pink wall entrance to Las Brisas and drove up the hill to reception. We were welcomed with their signature pink margarita and registered while sitting in the comfy wicker chairs that looked out over Acapulco Bay. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our room to be ready and were then driven in one of their famous pink and white shuttle jeeps up to our private casita #342. Our casita was situated on the third level of the steep uphill winding ... read more

We flew in on Aeromexico. I am still impressed by the seat comfort and service they provide on board. The cockpit staff and flight attendants are always friendly and cheerful. We breezed through immigration at the brand new terminal in Mexico City; a big improvement over the old one. There were plenty of shopping, eating and drinking diversions to keep us occupied for our 3-hr. layover. We made the 1-hr scheduled flight from Mexico City to Acapulco in 30 minutes time and whisked through baggage claim and customs. We were greeted by only one timeshare salesman from the Mayan Resorts. A breath of fresh air compared to getting bombarded by them at other Mexico resort airports. He politely accepted “No” for our answer to taking a tour and walked us over to the taxi stand and ... read more

Day 2 was rather uneventful, the plane arrived on time, we left on time and landed in a typical day in Acapulco. 30 Degrees and not a cloud in the sky. We excaped the gouging taxis fares just to discover no taxis would pick us up on the road outside the Airport. We decided to take a local chicken bus complete with holes in the floors and no glass in the windows. The Woman in front of us skillfully breast feeding her toddler while careening down the mountain road. Having no idea where this bus would take us we decided to debus when it turned off the main road. From there we catch a taxi that knew our hotel and said he would take us there. But two thirds of the way the driver changed his ... read more

Having flown AA twice in the past 5 years and both times having issues with mechanical problems with the plane, we weren´t surprised to find that when we arrived at the air port at 4:30 am that our flight had been cancelled due to mechanical problems. The first attendent placed us on stand by for another flight to Chicago but apon arriving at our gate we were informed we were dreaming if we thought we could get on the next flight. This attendent put us on a stand by for Dallas that would connect to a flight to Acapulco. After an anxious hour we were thrilled to receive boarding passes with actual seat numbers. Although Neil remained skeptical not believing our good fortune until sitting in his seat. While standing in line to board the plane ... read more
