the one we conquered
Pyramids, trajinera and more chilli...

Yesterday we went to Teotihuacan, a city 30miles from Mexico City where incredible pyramids are to be found. The journey there was by a bus that seemed just as old as the pyramids, with a cracked windshield and wheeles that made us doubt to get there alive. We took the bus from the station indios verdes, where million buses depart without the kind of bus stop as we know it. Basically you stop a bus that has your destination written on the (preferably broken) windshield by waving at the driver. He stops, you jump in, pay and then enjoy the bumpy ride 😊

Once arrived we only had a short distance to walk to the entrance. The size of the place was overwhelming with three huge pyramids and many small ones we wandered around went up the nearest already exhausted from the steep steps... But that wasn't enough for us, we made our way to the "piramid del sol" which seemed a bigger challenge, as it turned out it was the biggest one, so we climbed (you can't call it walking) it up to the very top... The sight is worth every single step.

tamalas are on the very left, wrapped in the leaves.
The view -incredible.

As a thunder started whilst on the top we decided to get back down and leave the third pyramid "piramid de la luna" out (yes because of the thunder... Not because we were so exhausted that we couldn't catch our breath... Ehm).

The bus ride back was somewhat different. It was an ordinary coach with air conditioning and a more comfortable journey. I must say: I preferred the first one 😊 -remark of Diana-

Back in Mexico City, Cynthia took us to an amazing Mexican restaurant in the centre of the city, the food was delicious as always, live music was played and again more chilli 😊 we tried various dishes such as "tamalas", which is corn with different ingredients, hard to describe but worth trying!!!

After we went to a small bar, cosy but full of life, we tried "mezcal", which tastes like tequila but it's not ... And it's very smokey... Does it taste good? Probably tequila lovers would admire it... It's strong and full of taste. However -nothing for us 😊

Today gave us another amazing impression of Mexico City, in the morning we drove to Xochimilco, where we took a "trajinera" -a boat that is similar to Punting but a lot bigger with a table and chairs. It was absolutely lovely.

A recommendation to anyone visiting this city of million faces: go to the area "Colonial Roma" it is probably the coolest and most beautiful area to go out, have dinner or drinks.

We are now back at "home", packing our stuff and making our way to Oaxaca.
