Hi from Saskatchewan
Nice to be back in Saskatchewan, standing in our wheat field June 17th, we were on our way back to Saskatchewan for the summer. The flights with Air Canada were smooth and on time, and we arrived back to a warm welcome. We managed to get settled in on Saturday and then Sunday morning we were off. Our first stop was Langham, where we said hello to Linda's Mom and Dad, then onto North Battleford where we joined Maurice's Mom and Dad, and sisters Rose Marie and Colette for Father's Day lunch. Then we drove to Turtle Lake where we enjoyed a very warm, joyful reunion with Maurice's family and celebrated Saydi's birthday, Holly's graduation and Father's Day, all in one party!
On Monday we started shopping seriously for an older camper that we could pull with our Honda Ridgeline. After 2 days of searching from Lloydminster to Saskatoon, with a stop off at the farm to visit Tyler, Kim, and of course our newest family addition Bennett, we found exactly what we were looking for on Kijiji. We spent the next week outfitting the trailer, visiting with friends in Saskatoon. We even managed a trip back to Tyler and Kim's and Bennett of course, where we spent a couple of
Party Time
we celebrated Saydi's 2nd birthday, Holly's grad and Father's Day! days poisoning gophers. It brought back many memories of being on the farm.
July 1st week-end, we were off on our first trip with our "new to us camper", it turned out to be ideal! I was in great condition and we had all we wanted and needed...even some empty cupboards. We spent the weekend at the lake with Rick and Beatrice, visiting all of Maurice's family. We celebrated Dad's 94th birthday at the lake as well! What a special treat it was to be able to celebrate this occasion with so many of the family there! We moved to the Battleford's Provincial park where Linda was able to spend some time with her family and celebrate Byron's 30th birthday. Unfortunately, Linda's mother Doris was not feeling well, having injured herself as a result of osteoporosis. They were only able to spend a couple of nights at the lake. Meanwhile, Maurice was able to help his sister Rose with health issues that she has been struggling with as well. We stole our 4 older grandchildren from their parents and brought them to Saskatoon and had great fun all week, sleeping, of course, in the trailer, where each of the
Birthday girl, Saydi
Saydi liked the dress and puppy purse we brought from Mexico children have their designated beds. On Saturday night, Brian and Leslie joined us as we hosted our first garage party for the summer. We enjoyed these so much from last year because it allowed us to see so many of our family and friends.
Having the trailer allowed us to have some of our grandchildren with us. Kid ages 2, 4, 6 are much easier and more fun than ages 1, 3,and 5. Linda enjoyed play dates with former teachers and their kids. We spent more time with Bennett at Tyler's farm. Bennett is only 3-4 months old and is still pretty attached to his mom, Kim. He's a mover though, Tyler has him on a walking program already, and figures he may have him walking by our Christmas return. Onto Marc's new farm we went. We were able to help with remodeling for a few days. We got to spend wonderful time with Saydi, who also stayed in the trailer with us. Linda painted the girls' room while Saydi was in the room. Painting with a child in the room has never happened before for her. Marc and Holly have that young lady trained well!
Five days
Cake for the Princess
several kids help destroy - eat the cake at the lake with Luc and Colette saw us getting our fill of mosquitoes, playing cards into the wee hours of the morning, walking to wear off the great meals, doing the token round of golf on the gorgeous Goodsoil course and setting off fireworks. That almost got us into trouble.
We enjoyed having Kody, Cory and Vicky drop in when we were in town. Cory and Vicky are now expecting their first child in November. They moved into a great place just a few blocks from their dad's house. Kody has taken over the duties of the carpet cleaning business he and Cory were running while Cory has gone to work on the drilling rigs in Alberta.
We celebrated Linda's Mom's 80th birthday by going out for dinner with them for a few hours. It was an effort, but Mom was able to sit long enough to eat and visit with us and Bob and BettyLou Simpson. Then, a few days before we left we had an especially great dinner with Kody, Cory and Vicky at Mr Rizo's, one of those quiet gourmet restaurants in Saskatoon.
Aaron was quite busy this summer but we managed to
Our newest Grandchild
Bennett, here 2 and a half months old, dressed and ready to go, ropin! watch one of his ball games. Maurice visited with him and we were able meet for dinner at his house to enjoy steaks and produce from OUR garden. Sara, his lovely girl friend joined us and we got to watch her dog and Aaron's dog goof off as the sun began to set, indicating to us that it was time to pack up for our trip back to Mexico.
What a great summer we had, we felt fortunate to be in Saskatchewan to be able to help those we love. We enjoyed many meals with family and friends and it was nice to reconnect after being away for a year. Having the camper allowed us to travel around and have our own space. It gave us the freedom to stop and visit wherever and whenever we wanted. We got much use out of it. We winterized and parked it behind the garage just before leaving to return to DF. Thus the end of this fantastic year in the life of Maurice and Linda Blanchette.
