Hey everybody! Morning began with a nice, quite short, visit with my Mexican friend (he's really busy in the morning getting paperwork and other stuff all done before the place opens up). I confess I was up really early, ridiculously early, hanging out on the curb long before he arrived (I'm such a stalker, lol). Met a really cute stray kitty that was pretty social, wish it hung around longer but it wandered off going up to other people and meowing. I went back home after the mini visit for breakfast, and lazed around until I had to leave for the HQ to meet up with the pair that also needed to see a doctor. Go to chiapas, everyone told me, THE place to be. Noone could actually tell me what was so cool about it but they mentioned two things, San Christobal and Palenque. The rainbow festival was about to be held in Palenque too, so I thought it would be a good idea to get there. We never made it to the festival, it was moved to some other weekend, the organisation team got arrested, whatever. I pretty much had enough of the beaches of Oaxaca, so we went to the lovely town of Pachutla to get a night bus to San christobal. So we arrived at a hostel and the owner was an Italian man who seemed nice at first and we got a dormitory room with several beds, dropped off our things and left to see the town. We had to stop off at the bike repair shop first because one of the guys wheels was bent. I helped him translate what repair he wanted, and it was interesting translating between Spanish, English and Bike terminology, but in the end they did a great job for 20 pesos. We set off to get some breakfast and found a café and tried quecas, something I had never had in Oaxaca. Then we saw the plaza and a beautiful church and walked around. And so began the next part of our adventure, on our own in mexico.... or not quite. On Sunday we caught a plane Tuxtla Guiterezz in Chiapis, a southern state of mexico. That morning Ale, rang her family in another town, San Cristobal, to ask about reccomending accomodation, and they kindly offered to have us stay for 4 nights. The grandparents and their daughter Rosio, all spoke limited English, however Rosio's daughter Kaori speaks very good english, and helped us with many translations. Beside the language differences, the family took us under there wing, and we will definitely come b ack to visit one day. Today was the first day at the Mayan Medicine Museum where me and a handful of others (and a few volunteers from Nataté) are going to spend a few days working. We had to meet at the big Mayan Cross by the Cathedral (this time I mean the Cathedral and not Santo Domingo. Heh.. had it wrong in the earlier posts) by 9 the latest. As my home location was a mile away, I left by myself a quarter after 8 after speed showering and chowing down my breakfast (my housemate had come down for breakfast later than I did and was taking his time with it.
