Lazy day spent sun bathing, reading and generally relaxing. We did use the gym today and a few other days, but our personal workouts at the resort did not seem as strenuous as traipsing around the Galapagos islands! Caroline started her search for vegan food. She sought out the manager of the hotel and submitted a very long complaints form. She and Max were so disgusted that they spent much of the rest of the trip eating at the vegan restaurants in town, despite the 'all inclusive' food having been paid for within the resort. We were a bit concerned as we had been warned that Cabo is one of the most dangerous tourist spots in Mexico. Another comment about the food and drink and general attitude of the resort. Yesterday when we arrived at ... read more

The night flight from Quito to Houston was simple but uncomfortable. We arrived in Houston and had a great deal of “fun” trying to get through immigration. We seemed to miss the easy path for US-transit-only passengers and ended up having to go through security again. We had a few hours wait until our ongoing flight to Cabo San Lucas. This was an ok flight and eventually we arrived In Mexico. Now this location was not in the main Mexico you think of which lies south of the middle of the US. No this was the southern tip of what is geograpically known as Baja California, alhtough it is officially part of Mexico albeit disconnected from the Mexican mainland. The baja sur runs south from San Diego California, with Tijuana at the northern border of ... read more

The light from outside wakes me up around 8am. The ship is very still. No noise. Peering out the window, I see that we're anchored in the bay off Cabo San Lucas. Our arrival was scheduled for 7:30, right on time but we have a limited day here as our all aboard time is 1:15pm. If you're the first off and last back on the ship you may have 5 hours to spend ashore. But tours booked through the ship get off first, then the tender ticket numbers determine the order of disembarking after that. We aren't leaving the ship today. I had a deal with a local hotel located on the beach where we could hang out all day, using their facilities and enjoying the poolside buffet all for $27pp. However, it's a short day ... read more

January 26 Cabo San Lucas We're ready to cook and dance. Our group of twelve boarded a bus for a short drive to a restaurant overlooking the sea. The plan is to learn how to make various salsas and then dance the salsa. Each table had the fixings, a lime squeezer, a cutting board and mortar and pestle. At the door we are offered juice, water and Margaritas. Well, the sun is over the yardarm somewhere so Maggie's it is. We were seated at a table where each couple had everything needed to make salsa. But first we made really great margaritas. The second batch were strawberry so I passed my glass to a tablemate who graded it A. ML was in charge of chopping and I did the grinding. Needless to say her chopping was ... read more

. When I first asked my husband where he wanted to go one our honey moon his response was "anywhere but a cruise" the truth is neither of us had been on a cruise and we were both hesitant to be on a giant boat in the middle of the ocean. All we could think was "Titanic" As the wedding planning continued we knew we wanted something fun and a wedding that people would remember. We are not your average couple. We don't like rules and we hate "tradition" for no reason. We discussed the cruise ship idea over and over and had family members telling us how wrong we were about cruising. We sank into the idea of a cruise ship wedding combined with a week long vacation. We decided to get married on a carnival cruise ... read more

I chose to stay at the Solmar, which I thought was a fairly good value. Things were well appointed without being a hugely upscale experience financially. I would stay there again. I think their water is actually fairly well treated, but I still used bottle water the entire time I was there just in case and that worked out just fine. As part of the package I had, I was given free "American Breakfast" every day at one of their snack bars. Turned out to be a really nice breakfast every day with ham, scrambled eggs, some rice, some tortillas, and a very fresh fruit salad. They took some time with food presentation as well, and once I noticed that, figured out the food would be pretty good and was right about that. Solmar and Grand ... read more

On my last morning I decided to stroll the beach of Lands End, mostly to check out its West end. It is referred to as Lands End due to the fact that if you head directly South from it, you won't touch land again until you reach Antarctica.... read more

I had a couple of hours before my sportfishing charter was to depart the marina, so decided to do the hike above Lands End to see what kind of views it offered. The hike up was worth it. I did however hike in my Keen sandals, and they were not quite the right footwear for the job but managed to get the hike in without any disasters. There are parts of the hike that are steep with rock and cactus, so falling down could prove painful. In think the round trip took me about 80 minutes. I did take my time on the way up and the way back. The path up is steep at the end, which means pretty tricky coming back down.... read more

I note this as sportfishing "lite" since the boat I chartered wasn't really set up to fish for Marlin. We were however set up to fish for Roosterfish and Dorado (i.e. Mahi-Mahi or Dolphinfish), although on this day we would be lead to believe that there were no Dorado in the immediate waters of Cabo San Lucas. I really just wanted to dabble in sportfishing, and I certainly didn't want to wake up at 5am and then be on the water for 8 hours, although I did like the idea of a shared boat. But, shared boats are 8 hour trips, so I opted to charter a 17' "Panga" with Mr. Peter. We departed the marina at 1pm and would be out for three hours or so. A "Panga"can accommodate three people on board, but there ... read more
