We skipped doing a canoe trip last year due to a variety of issues (covid, dock, boat lifts, funerals etc) so this year there were thoughts about going back to Dryberry Lake after our return from Ireland. However there were lots of dock and tree issues in June and we typically don’t do canoe trips in early summer due to mosquitos and flies. Our objective then became to do a four day trip at the end of August. Our inspiration to canoe Dryberry Lake originally came from Andy Miles back in 2020. Sadly Andy passed away last May. We also had Roy Ward on two of our trips but it also seems his overnight wilderness camping career is over. The list of people available for travel adventures grows ever shorter. However this year we were able ... read more

The big trip was coming! Finally I was to going to Africa.....That's what I thought.... Medical condition at the last minute forced to me to cancel it at the last minute. The medical problem is not completely fixed yet, so I may be limited, travel wise for at least a year! :-( That's life and in these moments, it's better to focus on the positive things. I kept all my preparation for my South African trip so t's going to be easier next time. I might even find better places! I decided to visit lots of little places not too far and wide in the last weeks. In the spring, If I can't go abroad still, I might go further in my own country as some canadian provinces I have never been to. Some of the ... read more

This is our last port before disembarking in Montreal. The last two days have been a bit of an adventure. Two nights ago I had a double order of escargot. They didn’t taste as good as usual but I ate them any. Later in the piano bar I started coughing and hiccups and then threw up in my wine glass. Account to Marilyn I was very discreet. I sat out the set and went to my cabin at the break. During the night all hell broke loose. I won’t go into details. My throat was very sore and I had a headache. First thing in the morning I went to sick bay, had a Covid test and was negative. I am fully boosted but all night I was wondering what would happen if I had to ... read more

The weather has not been cooperating. We did have a sunny day but it was a sea day. Those who went ashore returned chilled and wet. Needless to say I wasn’t one of them. When I first started cruising I wanted to explore every port. Now i’m content to relax on board and enjoy sharing meals with other guests. Have been blessed so far. Such fun people. Last night I dined with Peter and Denise from Perth. They are on a eighty nine day odyssey and this is just a small segment. From Montréal the are driving to Toronto and a family reunion, then on to Vancouver. From there they are sailing to Sydney with stops in Hawaii, Polynesia and islands in the South Pacific. After a flight from Sydney to Perth they arrive home at ... read more

Halifax is rainy so I am staying on board. Reading, enjoying a luscious mushroom and brown rice chowder, solid A. Have to find another book. Tonight dinner at the Pinnacle. Delicious dinner of steak tartare and rack of lamb with mashed potatoes, a glass of Cabernet and Key Lime Pie. It must be the sea air as I was in bed by eight, slept through the night and awakened by breakfast at 7:30. Finished my book, will look for another. The TV lineup us awful. News in Fox, CNBC and BBC. Two sports channels, food, HGTV, and Prime one Prime one. I find the Bow and Aft cams more interesting. Today is a sea day and the skies are overcast, the sea calm but I do see a few whitecaps. I feel little motion until I ... read more

Saturday, August 26 For the first time, we went to the Canadian War Museum. The museum is organized by eras. We skipped the earliest eras because two tour groups were just getting started there. I thought we could go back later, but we ran out of time. They were about the First Nations and the advent of Europeans; it would have been interesting to see how the history was written. Truthfully, throughout the main galleries much of the text on the signs was too generalized to be really informative, conveying only the broad strokes of accepted history. Women’s roles were faintly described, too often mentioning clerical positions in uniform and keeping up the home out of uniform. Missing entirely was the crucial role women played in ferrying all makes of aircraft from Canada to Britain. I ... read more

Today was a pretty relaxed day. We didn't have a schedule to adhere to so we decided to explore Stewart. We drove into town and stopped first at the Visitor Center. It was a very small room with a counter for making purchases and a bank of flyers and booklets of what to do in Stewart, BC and its sister city Hyder, AK, the surrounding communities, and the province of British Columbia. Next to the Visitor Center is a boardwalk that goes out over and across an estuary. There wasn't a lot of animal activity save for a few birds and a lone caterpillar. It was a nice walk out and back and even though today was cloudy and overcast, the views were beautiful. It just all seemed to fit well together. Stewart, British Columbia is ... read more

My alarm went off at 6:30 and I kept snoozing it until 7:00. Mike is always up way before me. He gets his coffee going, makes his toast (warm, dry bread), and feeds Charlie. After Charlie finishes his breakfast he has gotten into the habit of jumping up on the bed and going back to sleep ... tight against my head! Our routine of breaking camp went smoothly. So smoothly in fact that we left 15 minutes ahead of schedule. I could have hit that snooze button three more times! Just before we left, while Mike was in the park's bathroom, I showed Dave the giant bug that pinged off Mike's arm yesterday. It was still in the door cubby where it landed after I shook out my blanket. Dave said, "Yeah, that's a giant fly. ... read more
