Pine Tree Lake
beautiful still waters
Back on the Cassiar the road started getting rough just north of Dease Lake. There were little red "Slow" signs, about 12" tall, warning of the roughest spots. Those were the places with loose gravel or potholes 5' across. So when we saw the signs, we slowed down. Driving around the worst of the them, we looked like drunks on a crooked trail. About 10 miles before we got to the Alaska Highway, the road became all loose gravel for several miles, with a lovely washboard effect. It did finally smooth back out. Kerry says (and I've been told to quote,) "In Canada they call them highways, in the US we call them Kerry adventure roads."
We only saw three black bears today. The road was dusty and noisy, so I imagine they found more peaceful places to be.
Once on the Alaska Highway we were in the Yukon Territory heading toward Whitehorse. This area looks like the north woods should, with beautiful green and blue lakes peeking through the trees and rivers and streams hurrying downhill. We even passed one creek named George's Gorge, which made me laugh. We re-entered BC, then back into YT. We've stopped for
