The ride home was long and uneventful; my arrival was marvellous. We looped around Saskatoon before landing. With the snow on the ground, and the skies clear in the night sky, Saskatoon glowed like a jewel in our prairie landscape. The crisscross pattern of residential streets glowing amber and the white of the commercial main ways painted with bits of all colours from Christmas lights was truly beautiful. I hadn't really been thinking and feeling Christmas until I arrived home. Snow covered trees, lighted houses, Christmas trees in windows, even my first Christmas carols made it all real. The best was sitting in front of the fire, drinking wine with Mom, Jacquie and Scott and sharing stories. Canadian Christmas is unrivalled for me. Coming home means reconnecting with friends and family and all the places and ... read more

Just a few words about being home, before the next leg of the journey starts. My friend Chris says that it is only when you have been away can you tell if people do really like you. I am very grateful to all those I love for how clearly you all showed me that you missed me. I have never had so many hugs and big smiles of welcome. You all make me want to come home again and again. The pace changed on arrival; no more slow mornings of coffee and sudoku. It gave me the chance to really recognize how being on vacation was changing me. I connected with school, the world of kids, politics, decisions and fast flowing ideas, but most importantly my friends whose daily presence is a real lack in this ... read more

Check the bottom of the page for more photos. Many people are not realizing there are MANY more pictures than what is visible with the written portion! After leaving Cuba on March 26th, we spent a few days in Mexico City unwinding and getting back in touch with the rest of the world. On March 30th, we flew from DF via Houston.....Toronto and finally arrived HOME at midnight. Kristen and Brett greeted us at the airport and drove us back to our home. It was astounding to see the snowbanks remaining; our front lawn was still under 5 feet of snow and huge snowbanks were everywhere. Next morning, Easter Sunday, we made our way to Langham to attend our grandchild Tai's baptism. Following the local tradition, the extended family was invited to attend, and after the ... read more

Jacob and I are taking a year off to travel. We are not starting until after the first week in July, but we are getting ready. Here is the plan. We will start by loading our kayaks on the roof of the car and filling the back with all of our camping gear. We are heading East. Gary and Louise have graciously invited us to base camp with them in Ottawa. We'll make trips into Quebec and we are paddling down the Rideau with them at the end of July. Jake's dad and I are sharing him, so Jake will now leave to go to lake of the woods.I will move on to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Jake will rejoin me at some point. I will Kayak and camp as I go, leaving each ... read more

Summer in Saskatchewan is always so beautiful and such a special place to be! We enjoyed our family, went camping, and attended the Blanchette family union in Meota at the end of July. We were able secure an extended family camping site at Meota Regional Park. About 15 people camped with us in our designated site. We registered and enjoyed the social on Friday, and on Saturday we hosted the many visitors that came to the group site with coffee and a little fruit. Most brought something to add to the group effort including tarps to protect us from the sun's blistering rays. A short walk or drive got people down to the beach area to cool off and visit more. Later in the afternoon, we headed to Vawn for the family church service, followed, of ... read more

I don’t know how many of you have ever been to Saskatchewan (again - Sas-KATCH-ewan, not Saska-CHEW-an), but Peter told me years ago that we would never, ever go. Not even to cross it off "the list". This is because his grandparents were from there, and they had had to drive that long, straight, road, back and forth, back and forth, year after year, to visit. And, while I’m completely entertained by long straight stretches with nothing in them but grass and the occasional cloud, it’s probably much more boring to 3 little boys, trapped in the car. But then! Friends moved there - and not to the thriving metropolis of Saskatoon, but to a little town an hour or so south, called Outlook (Google map http://goo.gl/maps/DtyrQ). So, despite the "never, ever going", we’ve been there ... read more

Easter Sunday! We are back at our home in Saskatoon. We were up bright and early so that we could head to Linda's parents in Langham. There, we feasted on a delicious lunch with a lot of Linda´s family present, 14 to be exact. After enjoying the traditional Easter dinner, we sent most people home, grabbed a nap like our parents, and then headed to North Battleford to have Easter supper in a private room at Mr Ribs with most of Maurice´s family. Then it was off to Tyler´s farm for the night. Bennett woke us next morning. We made time for coffee and more visiting before heading out into the crisp, cold, fresh air of the farm. The wind caught us off guard and we needed to dress in order to keep warm and be ... read more

So here I am 3 months after my big trip from Thailand... I've had a lot of time to reflect and settle from what was the best time of my life :P I'm keeping my pictures up on my laptop so I have some sort of guide and try to remember all the things I got to see. My first few hours in Thailand were very "ugh". I may have not showed it to the girls but I was completely dead to the world. Even though I was so happy I was in this gorgeous country, I was still adjusting lol. When I got to see my room I was so happy to see a big bed! I had my own little place for the next 3 weeks. It was so pretty and smelled so good. ... read more

After a year and a bit of saving like mad things, our trip is just two sleeps away! Buried somewhere beneath the thoughts of "What the holy shizznit are we doing?!", there is a lot of excitment. I've packed my bag countless times, done waaaay too much banking, and read confusing but apparently important documents constantly for the past few months in preparation. We will be travelling for a total of 30 hours with an eight hour layover in Vancouver and a five hour layover in L.A. I'm hoping as payment for all the gruelling waiting we'll at least spot a celebrity :P Once we land in Auckland, NZ, we will be piling into our pre-booked shuttle and going to our hostel where we have booked a three night stay in a ten person dorm (there ... read more
