On October 23rd, Linda's mother experienced more heart trouble and was admitted to hospital for tests and rest. After spending a week in hospital, she returned to her home in Langham. We decided that a trip home to help her adapt to her new limitations was in order. Just a day before leaving for Taiwan, winter reared it's ugly head. Icy roads, high winds and freezing temperatures made us feel ready to leave for warmer climates.

We attended the KAS Christmas Party just a few days after Jack arrived.

The Christmas Party is a grand affair held in one of the finest hotels in the city. The view from the top floor restaurant is beautiful, oh, and the girls are too.

Pearl is the pre-kindergarten teacher at KAS. She is a fascinating person and has many stories to tell. Jack is one of her greatest fans!

On Sunday, we scootered to Mienong. The cultural center has a pretty garden in the front.

Vincent and Caroline drove out to Meinong as well. We met for dinner then had an ice cream treat.

They grow cherry tomatoes in long rows. The plants climb on trellises and form a canopy above our heads. The cherry tomatoes hang like grapes.

We stopped to visit Old Street in Quishan. They hold a huge market every Sunday.

We invited friends over for supper in exchange they taught us how to play 'majong'.

Our guests patiently explained how to play the game, it's a little like tile rummy. We did have trouble though telling the difference among the Chinese characters on some of the tiles, like north, south, east and west.....

Jack and Maurice scootered to the school to spend an hour with Linda and her grade fours while we waited to perform for the Winter Concert.

Jack and Linda joined the group for an evening of Karaoke. It happens to be very popular in Taiwan. The buildings have individual rooms that seat 5-8 people, others rooms 10-15. That way, not everyone has to listen to ALL the singing, only to your friends.
