;) In Quebec ... read more

My last couple of nights in Vancouver were more than a little ridiculous and loads of fun. After cramming everything into my pack in record time and actually leaving to catch the bus to the airport early (Who me? Yeah I know) I climbed onto the plane and embraced the feeling of once again being completely in transit. It is one of my favourite things of traveling, when you are mid air and you’re not permanently located in any one place, and completely in limbo, it’s the greatest feeling. Actually getting to Quebec was a wee bit of an ordeal in that it involved a transfer in Toronto, and then a 45 minute wait for the bus from Montréal, which stopped downtown Montréal for another hour before finally going to Quebec. I successfully managed to get ... read more

And boy did it live up to its reputation for winter, it was freezing, but to be honest it was beyond that, it was way way below freezing about 20 C below freezing, add in the wind chill and it was a ball shrinkingly cold weekend. The awesome foursome making up this little trip Rachael, Gen, Matt and myself. For me the weekend held a little more significance as February the 4th was the occasion of my 21st Birthday, but more on that later. It had been my responsibility to organise the hire car for the w/e which I had duly done of course going for the smallest, cheapest car that would fit four people into it, I had made just a tiny little insignificant mistake. I had through no fault of my own actually hired ... read more

QUEBEC CITY AND ONWARDS! More photos up on site of this, as well as of Toronto - some Billy Connolly photos from Bennie - cheers for that - on photo site. I flew from Toronto to Quebec, via Montreal. The plane I was flying from Montreal to Quebec in was tiny! I was absolutely crapping it during take off, the weird noises it was making...however worse was yet to come as arriving in Quebec my crazy taxi driver didnt speak English and obviously the French must not have a word for 'lane' as he didnt appear to know what these were either! Worse still is that the taxi charges you about 30$ (about 15 pounds) and is the ONLY way to get from the airport to town, which I thought was a bit ridiculous for such ... read more

Day 91..... We were welcomed across the Canadian boarder (without being interrogated for a change!) into New Brunswick. Our first stop was Fundy National Park, famous for the world's largest tides! As the tourist season had come to an end, it felt as though we had the whole park to ourselves. We made the most of the remaining sunshine and kept up with our walking, until Martin spotted a rather 'lonely' looking golf course! As 'pitch n' putt' is more Angela's cup of tea, she played the role of caddy (don't get too used to that Martin, we were on holiday!). Continuing our journey East, we headed towards remote Prince Edward Island. We entered the island via the very long Conferedation Bridge, spanning 13km across the Northumberland Strait. We were the only people staying at our ... read more

We arrived in Quebec City in the late afternoon. Prior to my arrival I did not have big expectations for this city, however I was proven wrong. Quebec City is a quaint little town. There are not so many attractions, however this city gives you a certain feeling. It seemed to be a bit more French than Montreal. We ate a crepe restaurant which was my first time at an exclusive crepe restaurant. The next day we woke and set out to tour the city. We walked to get our croissant and latte and headed through the city walls. We first visited Le chateau Frontenac. This castle is now a hotel and has a view of the water. We then took the incline down to all of the little streets with all of the little boutiques. ... read more

I'm back in Montreal after a two days excursion to Quebec City which is three hours by train from Montreal. Unfortunately the excursion didn't turn out to be as nice as I had hoped for. There was nothing wrong with Quebec City, quite the opposite actually, it's one of the nicest, oldest and cosiest cities in North America, the problem was the weather which was cold (only 6-8 degrees), windy, grey and rainy. And as if that wasn't enough, the evening before I left Montreal I felt I was about to get a cold, which I also got the following day, and cold and windy weather is definitely not optimal if you have a cold (as was indeed the case in Quebec City). Anyway, Quebec City was nice enough and I did spent some time walking ... read more

Montreal was a cool but a bit strange as everyone speaks French (as they do throughout province of Quebec) as a first language and all the signs are in French but it looks like any other Canadian city. A group of girls from the UK that we had met in Ottawa were staying in the same hostel as us in Montreal so we all went for a night out in the famous party city (or so it is called). Was a good night in Montréal which started a period of random events including meeting a guy wandering around with a potato masher in the early hours of the morning, nice guy tho and showed us to a 24 hour coffee shop and a couple of Canadian sailors who were doing Russian dancing for us. Next day ... read more
