Today we had a long drive from our hotel in Brossard, just outside of Montreal, to Quebec City. We took our time getting organized in the morning and went on our way. We stopped just outside of town at the Mont Saint Bruno national park for a walk in the woods. What a lovely park! We had a very nice walk, saw squirrels, chipmunks, and even a few deer! We came across a grassy beach on the pond with some chaise lounges and a playground. We wandered around, the kids had fun on the trampoline, until someone kicked us out - it was private property...
We continued our walk back to the car and had sandwiches before commencing our journey. It's a long and boring drive to Quebec, about two and a half hours of flat with nothing to see. We did finally make it and arrived to the Montmorency Falls just outside of Quebec City. What a beautiful waterfall! We saw several woodchucks munching on the grass of the gardening there. Cute little buggers!
We went inside the mansion there, Manoir Montmorency, which was apparently owned at one time by Prince George, Queen Victoria's dad. Now it's an
information center, restaurant and tourist center. We went out on the terrace to enjoy the view. I don't get the non-Israeli tourists (not that I mind). We explore, take a peek. If we see something open we go in. Others stay on the path. The result was we had the entire terrace to ourselves because we found an unlocked door. Cool!
We continued on the path towards the falls. There's a constant view of the St. Lawrence river and most of the time you can see the falls themselves from the path, but there is a great lookout point on the way. We crossed the suspension bridge over the falls and enjoyed another viewing platform just above the falls, watching the water plunge over the edge, before we continued on our way.
Along the path we saw a chipmunk scraping the leftovers from a snack bar wrapping. Not healthy I'm sure but so funny!
We got to the long wooden stairway down to the falls, took a few pics and started climbing down. On the way several joggers kept passing us going up and down the stairs. We kept seeing the same people going back and forth,
up and down and I thought 'sure, they'll be in shape, but at what cost?!'
Near the bottom the stairway splits into two. One to the right, into the fall's spray. The kids went that way and got soaked. Gilat and I opted for the dry path.
The path meanders along the stream with the falls behind us. Fly fishers were trying their luck in the stream, gulls floated in the air, peaceful.
We crossed the river again to the cable car terminal, did a little souvenir shopping and took the cable car back up to the parking lot. Another few minutes and we were at our hotel.
Watch the daily vid of our adventures:
The 'N' Hotel is nice, with a modern decor. The room is smaller than our previous rooms but one of the beds folds up into the wall to add space during the day. A good thing since we're here for two nights!
Tomorrow we're off to explore Quebec City.
Until next time, bye!
