Hello !

So i have been in Montréal for a few days now. When i arrived i thought i was gona freeze to death, it was seriously cold.. Luckily for me, that was as cold as it gets, its about 2-6 degrees right now which is fine by me. So far i've been walking around town alot, been to the cathedral, parks, walked over 50km and had a great time! The cathedral was beautiful and i walked aroind quietly in awe of the building. i lit a candle for my grandma and then continued my walk through tje cathedral. After that i went to one of the many parks, and to my astonishment, i saw about a dozen squirls, hopping around looking for food. it was the cutest sight ever :) Lets see for food.. Yesterday i ate ... read more

Four years ago Margo and I visited one of North America’s most unique institutions – Montreal’s Biodome: here are some photos from our visit. In 1976 the Olympic Games were held in Montreal, in venues specially created for that purpose. One of them, the velodrome, was designed for cycling events , but interest in that sport didn’t carry over after the Games. In 1989 it was completely rebuilt inside to become the Biodome, which has self-contained replicas of four ecosystems found in the Americas: the Tropical Forest, the Laurentian (Canadian) forest, the Saint Lawrence (Eastern Canada) Marine Ecosystem, and the Polar areas. There are also several exhibition rooms, housing displays, nutrition and veterinary clinics, and information. The hermetically-sealed “habitat” of each of the four eco-systems is temperature- and humidity-controlled to be exactly like the system i ... read more

Geo: 45.5075, -73.5587So, this is my first entry in my own blog... Actually I never wanted to write a blog but now I thought “Why not ?” It might be quite nice to read after a few months/years again how I felt during this year of travel.First, I'd like to tell you what I mean with “this year of travel”. As you probably know, I'm a PhD-Student and I study suffixation in the protoromance language. Sounds boring, but it isn't. Well, in the beginning this wasn't the subject I chose and when my teacher told me to cancel the subject I wanted to study because it would be too difficult and to choose the topic just mentioned, I wasn't happy. There were also other private circumstances that made my first PhD-year really difficult, exhausting and quite ... read more

Up at 6am and after getting ready we venture out for a coffee & try Jimmy’s in Kensington Market. Not bad. It’s a chain that has as its inspiration, people who have been famous with the name ‘Jimmy’ e.g. Jimi Hendriks, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Page etc. with photos of said people on the walls. An interesting concept! We take a few more pictures of the area – without the crowds and then it’s back to the hostel to pick up our stuff and catch the tram to the bus stop at 8.30am. We get to the Mega Bus terminal in time to check in and board. This is our first ever trip with them. Greyhound does not do this route. The bus is a double decker coach. We opt for upstairs for the views. The seats ... read more

We travelled to Quebec today. It is only about 120 miles from Montreal. We arrived here early so I thought I would add some more observations that I had about Montreal since I was afraid that I would be kicked off the internet last night. Beautiful weather here. Around 72, sunny and no humidity. I am doing laundry in our RV. I have a washer/dryer combination that will only hold a small amount of clothes (about 10 lbs. max). So, you have to do laundry everyday if you have enough amperage coming in to the coach. Montreal has a large Chinatown. The early workers came from China to work in the mines and on the railroad. One of our guides was from Hong Kong. He said that he has been here 20 years. He worked in ... read more

I am going to try this again. I had it typed and the internet shut down. Yesterday we drove from New York State to Montreal Canada. We saw mostly farms consisting of corn and some soybeans. I would like to thank Glenn and Glenda for being our leaders on this trip. I was especially glad that they were our guides yesterday as all of the road signs and mileage was in French and kilometers. We arrived at our RV park and then we all had a picnic. I grilled brats. Today we took a trip to the city of Montreal. I learned something new today. The city of Montreal is on an island in the St. Lawrence River. There are 6 bridges going to the island. There are one million, eight hundred thousand people living in ... read more

... read more
