Confederation Bridge
going onto the bridge from NB heading to PEI 13 kilometers of bridge This last week in PEI has been great, it started with the 13 kilometer confederation bridge coming from New Brunswick onto PEI. We camped at a small campgrounds just out of Charlottetown and decided to do all our sightseeing from there. The trees are just starting to show some fall colours. We toured Charlottetown first and around every corner there is a little history of Confederation. Down at the pier local musicians perform on the streets. At Founders Hall we did a walk through time starting in 1864 with the meeting that led to the birth of Canada and on July 1 1867 Canada became reality, this museum walk through was excellent and worth it to see. Next we travelled to Cavendish to Anne of Green Gables Museum and Avonlea Village, (a very touristy place but afterall thats what we are). We also went to the Red Sand Dunes. We visited the The Red Dirt Shirt Factory where they die their shirts with the soil from PEI. All of PEI soil is red and it has a sandy texture which probably explains why they grow world famous potatoes. We took a trip to Summerside which is the only other city on
PEI Lighthouse
our first glimpse of PEI the island. Total population of PEI is about 400,000, so the cities are not huge. Light houses are very abundant and still necessary is some areas. We found PEI to be lovely with its rolling hills and lots of dairy farms. One of their attractions in most places was their Ice cream and cow paraphenalia. The main industry here is Agriculture, Tourisim and Fisheries and they do very well at all of them. The Island has lower taxes (like Alberta) and for the most part more affluent then NB. One of the most exciting things for me was being here while the Fall Flavours Festival was on we were able to get tickets(our Anniversary gift to each other) to 2 events one on Friday night called Beef n' Blues(as in music) with Chef Carl Hienrich - he was Canada's Top Chef winner this year and I have to say we were dissapointed with the event- poor organization and the food was not great. However the young guy playing and singing the Blues was wonderful. The next day we had tickets to Picnic in the Park with Chef Anna Olson in Cavendish and that was everything I wanted it to be
PEI
country side in PEI lots of rolling hills and ocean very pretty and more and I even got to speak with her for about 15 min. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time in PEI and now we are on the Ferry to Nova Scotia (the cost of the ferry was no more expensive then going back on the bridge and the cost of fuel all the way around. You do not pay to come to PEI whether it is the bridge or the ferry you pay to get off the island. We will stay 1 day in Nova Scotia leaving the trailer at the campground just out of Sidney and take the truck on the ferry to NFL for about a week then back to tour Nova Scotia. Hurricane Leslie is causing lots of rain at the moment and wind but not to bad.
