As we came into port the coastline was lined with people as this was the maiden voyage a Disney cruise ship has berthed in PEI. We were extremely lucky to dock at the wharf this morning as the tide was very low. Thankfully Captain Mickey decided to take a chance. There was a small delay for going ashore as they had to modify the gangways this meant our onboard time was extended by 1 hour ... more shopping time for us.
I’d booked us onto a private Anne of Green Gables tour with Harry through Duncan’s Tours. We were greeted by a Canadian Mounty and a Anne Shirley lookalike as we came ashore.
We located Harry in the Cruise Terminal, which was full of shops with a craft market.
As we headed out of town Harry gave us a run down on our day and history of the Island
Anytime we would spot something along the way that interested us he would stop so we could check it out or take a photo.
I noticed a corn maze had been set up in a field with pumpkins for Halloween. Harry asked if we’d like to stop. We all said yes and
jumped out of our vehicle to investigate. There was a lot of different pumpkins around the entry of the maze. I even ventured a little way into the corn maze.
Back on the road again we travel through a few picturesque fishing villages and were shown a few of the Islands beaches and the red cliffs. We even passed the cemetery where Lucy Maud Montgomery is buried. Harry said a lot of Japanese tourists get married near her grave or have their wedding photos taken. We were all surprised at how popular Anne of Green Gables was with the Japanese until Harry told us it was the books they used in schools to teach them how to speak and read English.
We went to Silver Bush in Cavendish and saw the house that was used as Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert’s home. I loved the way the rooms were set up. There was even a Raspberry Cordial bottle in the Kitchen cabinet but no Red Current Wine .... I asked. I spotted a broken slate in Anne’s room but no Gilbert Blythe in sight.
Our next stop was the Anne of Green Gables Museum which is a home owned by Lucy
Mauds cousins the Campbell’s and where she got all her inspiration from
After our tour Harry dropped us back in town and recommended a pub where we could get the best lobster roll .. and he wasn’t wrong.
We all had a wonder around town and boosted the economy
Onboard tonight was our Halloween night and we were all excited as we got into our costumes and mingled with the other passengers. Mum and I were a couple of Disney Villains. There was some amazing family costumes. One family were the Dalmatians and the service dog was cruella. Another family was Beauty and the beast with the kids dressed as Lumiere and Cogsworth. My favourite was the Aladdin family as they had one of their kids as the flying carpet
