We have just completed five days visiting some of the most scenic( and expensive) places in Canada- Lake Louise- what a view of a lake and glacier from our bed room window-, Jasper, Banff and the Sulphur Mountain gondola and Calgary with its sky walks which are land bridges that link buildings that mean that people do not have to venture our when it gets cold ( up to -40/50 F) in the winter and an indoor tropical garden on level 4 of one of its bigger shopping areas . All very scenic, particularly the Lake Louise and the Columbia snow fields but I am pleased to move on a move to the next stage of our holiday which is 10 days driving around eastern Canada- Toronto,Ottawa,Montreal and Quebec. Since I lasted updated you I have ... read more

The first thing we encountered after getting off the bus in Toronto was a rather aggressive young woman walking with her dog; she would let the dog approach people and then start saying things like "what are u doing touching my dog". It was also raining, so we had to stand in shelter for some time before we could walk to our apartment. Things did get better soon, though. The apartment was great, perfectly clean, stylish apartment on the 18th floor of a downtown highrise. We had a hotel-like room with very comfy bed. The best thing, though, was definitely the balcony with view to the financial district skyscrapers. Greetings to you, Emerson, in case you are reading this ;) We enjoyed the big city atmosphere in Toronto for three full days. On the first morning ... read more

When:15th July - 20th Aug 2013 Where: Toronto Highlights: visiting & living IN the concrete jungle, hunting open space whenever wherever possible, making new friends, visiting all the touristy venues. In short, been there, done that. Calgary has 1/5th of Toronto's population. This statistic meant nothing to me until I actually felt it. I am not a city person and if this post is biased, well, I cannot help it. Did I come across all the 5 million people in the city? It definitely feels so! Toronto Eaton Center Highly over-rated! Expensive! Touristy! And this feeling after my third(and probably final) visit. Also after a local told me so. I just blindly began to believe that shopping is expensive i... read more

I find myself a little sad to be leaving Toronto today. Excited about making the trip to Vancouver, but sad to leave here all the same.I've had a great few days here, the highlight of which are:Thursday evening - Last Summer on Earth Show at Molson AmpitheatreThis was the important one that I needed to make sure I was in Toronto for. It would have been such a shame to waste my front row ticket and my spot at the pre-show meet and greet!!The evening actually started off with a very up close and personal show at the Reverb tent at the venue. Ed and Jim stepped up to play a couple of songs. If i'd have been stood any closer to Jim I'd have been able to share his microphone! Was a nice little warm ... read more

Geo: 43.6485, -79.3854Today we had the day to explore Toronto, and we set off headed towards the CN tower. On the way we stopped off for a spot of brunch at a cafe - Simon had a crepe with fresh fruit and custard and Nicky had creeps and French toast with fresh fruit. After this delicious brunch we headed to the CN Tower and once we had purchased the tickets we were on our way. The tower required us to take an elevator to a observatory capsule - this gave us views over the city of Toronto and onto Lake Ontario. Apparently on a clear day you can see Niagara Falls but we couldn't see them today. There was also a glass floor and although this was full of people pulling questionable poses you could see ... read more

The day has finally arrived and in less than 48 hours I would be on the bus. To save myself a vacation day I had booked a flight late enough in the evening so that I could work that day. I expected the work day to go slowly but before I knew it 5PM was here and it was time to head back to apartment to wait for my ride. I had some time before my ride would be there so I did last minute checks of my luggage which I had bought specifically for this tour. My flight with Air Transat left at 9:30PM and I had asked a friend to get me at 7:00PM at my place. Shortly before 7:00PM I was waiting out front of my apartment building and wondering if I was ... read more

The drive from Sault Ste. Marie to Toronto started nice and early, as per usual. It was a very pretty and scenic drive with Georgian Bay (connected to Lake Huron) in the distance for quite some time. Once again I must say that Ontario really surprised me as it is extremely lush with greenery. The lake would sneak up on you when you drove and these gorgeous views would engulf us. The lake had soft sandy beaches and really did look like a tropical paradise surrounded by lush nature. I had taken over the drive about half way to Toronto. It was easy for me to stay awake and alert during the drive as the scenery was just so incredible I didn’t want to miss anything. It seemed like one minute we were on this quiet ... read more
