Rained heavily again last night - forecast for the day was rain so we were happy we had decided to take a country drive today rather than fight the city public transport in Toronto. Filled up with fuel before our trip $1.17 per litre. RV took $170 to fill. After visiting numerous cities on this trip we are starting to feel a little tired. After all each new city requires new research into their public transport and city parking. We are saving ourselves for Quebec and NYC! Well the country drive ended up being an 8 hour round trip through some lovely towns and villages along the water front trail of Lake Erie - Port Burwell to Port Dover. It was a very relaxed day - one of those days you wish would never end. The ... read more

Geo: 43.6667, -79.4167Who knew that our short stay in Toronto taking care of a few loose ends would have us empathizing with the squeezed Gobi Desert nomads we stayed with some months ago. The bureaucratic monoliths of modern society do not like nomads without a fixed address. A certified copy of our rental lease was required for a library card (??) and the pup tent in the backyard of Deb & Dave B where we stay as virtual guests has served as our 'primary' address (the lack of a credit history at our tent location causes the financial folks to twist themselves into knots). We tried using "The World" and "internet" as our home address when filling out forms but Revenue Canada has a limited sense of adventure when it comes to collecting their pound of ... read more

Rain fell heavily all during the night and was still heavy in the morning. Glad we chose to visit the falls last night as there would be no chance of seeing much today. Drove the short distance to the international border - no line up - everyone must have been sleeping in on this wet day. It is certainly a lot easier to enter Canada than USA...very few questions asked before we were on our way - but first you have to pay a toll $6.50 for an RV. Along the highway there were lots of wineries lining both sides of the roads. In New York State there was also a significant number of wineries as well - must be the ideal temperature to grow grapes. Stopped by at the Ontario welcome centre - the lady ... read more

I woke up at 5:30AM local time and 12:30AM EST to begin my journey. Train ride to Glasgow followed by taxi to the airport and a flight from Philadelphia. Flight was ok and the meal was tasty for airline food. After landing in Philadelphia we had an hour wait to go through security but the TSA worker tried to keep everyone's spirits up reminding us we were in the city of Brotherly love. Some people commented we were not feeling the love with all the searches going on. Everyone had a good laugh about that. I had 6 hour layover in Philadelphia and I debated heading into the city for some cheese steaks but I was advised against it by the airport information desk so I had settle on a disappointing and a very expensive cheese ... read more

This day was a late start as a result of the day before - we didn't realise we were exhausted. We bought tickets for the Hop on Hop Off bus to see the sites of Toronto we stopped at the TCN tower which was the tallest tower until the big one was built in Dubai. We went up in the elevator which took 58 seconds to get to the top - you wouldn't want to be scared of heights and the lift was on the side and you could see how fast you were going up while trying to look at the scenery below and beyond. Once at the top you can see why Toronto is called the city of condominiums - huge towers everywhere and a lot more being built. Drinks were had at the ... read more

Here we are at the Marriott Courtyard in Toronto. I am working out in the gym bright and early - about 5.30am while John is putting this together on my iPad and slowly, very slowly, waking on a walker. Breakfast at Cora's - franchise with great food - interesting breakfast - fruit, eggs and bacon - all on the same plate but somehow it doesn't seem wrong. They do, however, butter your bread before it's served to you. Lovely, friendly people and found out it's in Montreal and franchised throughout Canada which is good news. We had booked a full day excursion to Niagara Falls - which started off at 9.30am as we were picked up along the way to other pick ups at hotels in the inner city area. It was an introduction to this ... read more

The Big Apple & Maple Leaf Escapade From 26th July – 12th August 2013 Within a short stint of 365 days, I was back to the North America for thTe second time. This time covering the Eastern parts of USA and Canada. The whole idea came about some time in February this year after meeting my 2 best friends William and Peter in Penang for a CNY reunion. Peter has been indefatigably coercing both William and I to join his planned tour of Greece in September but I tactfully turned down his kind invitation as seeing Canada was my priority at that juncture. Eventually William took side of my “Big Apple and Maple Leaf” sojourn. Cosmos does offer a very comprehensive package ground tour of my choice seeing 10 cities in 14 days. However, the tricky ... read more

Hello ladies and gents. So the time we've all been waiting for is nearly upon us. It's just a few hours until I move to Edinburgh. In a remarkable turn of events, I'm almost completely packed! Leaving out the fact that I am currently in the terminal, waiting to board, I think this is a remarkable feat. Currently, there is twenty minutes until boarding and Mum is out grabbing one more converter and when she arrives back, I will officially be completely ready for my move. And here she is. She has such lovely timing. Anyway, it has been a very emotional day for me. Sort of. There has been a large wealth of emotion and a portion of that was felt by me. I was woken up bright and early by my mother who took ... read more

August 29, 2013 Slept in a bit, had breakfast at the Coachhouse Inn in Tobermory, then it was off to see more of "The Bruce." I'm realizing that in this part of the world, and probably for a good portion of the rest of this trip, that when people say "great scenery" they are referring to water, trees, and a lighthouse or two. But it was pretty good scenery taking Dyers Road to the Cabot Head lightstation. We followed the Lonely Planet's suggestion to avoid the poison oak on the side of the road and took a short walk at Cabot Head instead. Then it was time to get out of the boonies and travel on to Canada's largest city. Our impressions of Toronto: big (6 million people), full of construction (must do it all in ... read more
