Rent a baggage cart for $2!
Biggest ripoff EVER... I've never seen this at any of the airports I've been to! This entry is short and sweet since I spent too much time uploading and sorting photos from my camera :p
Recap of what we did today:
- Sleep in until 11:30 except Candy has a lunch date with her mentor at noon - EEK! Mom and I went to soak in the hot tub while Candy went for lunch, and I watched the Brazil-Ghana game. 3-0 Brazil! It's unfortunate Ghana had to meet Brazil and lose instead of another team, they were utterly charming and kicked USA's butt which is another plus - fantastic first showing! I still can't find a nice Brazil shirt that fits to buy, boohoo =( And I wanted to put a flag on my car but the World Cup's over when I get back meh.
- Went shopping on Queen Street West!!! It's the equivalent of Robson and it has a nice mix of unique boutiques and big names like Aldo, Le Chateau etc... we only went to the small shops and they were fantastic! The prices here are much better than Vancouver - a salesperson told me there's a lot more competition between stores here hence the lower prices. Candy bought a
View from Sheraton
Nice and high, but I wish it wasn't cloudy... we saw the sunset today but it would have been much nicer without the clouds and smog Lacoste bag on Boxing Day on sale for $120, and it's on sale here for $60 - ouch! So of course I rubbed it in by buying a white one for myself in a different style - the only thing is it screams its name in big letters with the big croc so it might be a bit too ostentatious... Candy told me to not get mugged while carrying it :p
- Had afternoon tea at Four Seasons in expensive (think Holt's) Yorkville, service was excellent and among the best I've received - people pushed the revolving door through for us and the server at tea was subtle but anticipated our needs very well. It's too expensive for us to stay at but peeking in the nice lobby and using the washrooms makes us feel special :D Food wasn't as great as I thought though, Bacchus at Wedgewood in Vancouver has better/more food at a lower price and cosier setting. And if it sounds like we're living it up on this trip, I suppose we are since we haven't travelled together as a family in two years and probably won't for another two because Candy has school/co-op with no
breaks until she graduates.
- Back to Queen St for shopping... I don't want to think about how much I spent so I refuse to look at my receipts.
- Back to hotel, I take a shower and snooze while Candy and Mom go for a short massage at the spa. They only had two masseuses so I couldn't get one but that's ok, my wallet needs to recover :p It helped them a lot with jet lags and walking aches though since Candy was coming down with something and my Mom was really tired since she's not used to walking a lot.
- Met with Candy's friend in Toronto, he's on a finace trainee program from UBC and working here for the summer. When he graduates, he will be guaranteed a job in investments that will reach six figures very quickly. Anyone looking for a rich husband? 😉 The four of us went back to Queen St to eat at a cheap but good cafe recommended by Candy's mentor.
Ookay, I managed to ramble again ahh!!! Going to sleep, will be up at 6:15 tomorrow for the Chinese bus tour to Niagara, so we'll probably
Our long-lost relatives!
Well, sort of. Taken inside Honger Pacific Mall ;) be herded around like sheep and be run ragged, so I'll probably skip a post tomorrow. Hope to have some gorgeous photos to show the day after though! 😊
re Comments:
1. Eunice - yes, I'm usually too tired to write long entries too but the time difference makes it easier... it's almost midnight here but my body still thinks it's 9 pm >.< I was too lazy to upload photos until tonight though
2. Matt - haHAha I can see that happening too, although I didn't know you could still ski in the summer... so maybe the blog's from last year? That'd be even more hilarious!! No smog alert but it is terribly smoggy here... a couple people asked if I'd live in Toronto and I said probably not in the long run, Torontonians are very down on their city and tell me there isn't much here besides being a financial centre. Oh and yes we are staying in the downtown core, right by where the shopping area starts. You can see the big orange Sheraton 'S' from a lot of places downtown at night since it's a very tall building which is handy when walking
Richtree Marche
Yum, look at that hunk of bread! back.
3. Jessica - I know there are other cities to come... that's why I bought one Lacoste bag instead of two 😉

Yeah those carts are ridiculous eh! I've seen them somewhere else, maybe it was LAX, but I remember thinking, is 2 dollars the cost to rent? while trying to find where your money would come back out when you returned them. A la Tom Hanks in, what's that movie where he's stuck in an airport? Anyway, absurd, agreed!
