This has been one crazy week trying to get ready but finally my bags are packed. I got my hair done last week and manicure and pedicure today...I think I'm ready to go! I have been following team 1's journey online at http://www.ascentbc.ca/ ...I will not be able to update this blog while I am on the mountain, but please visit this website for details on the climb while I am on the mountain. Also, magic 106.1 and 1460 cjoy (www.magic106.com) are airing phone calls from me in the morning show while on the mountain. This has been such an emotional time for me. I feel like I'm fighting back tears with every update from team 1 and with every goodbye I say at work. Today I had a beautiful presentation of a guardian angel pin ... read more

Still a bit road buzzed...a long day of driving (1100 kms) and Otis and I made it home! I don't think Otis knew where he was, until he started climbing the stairs, then he ran upstairs and just rolled, drank water, rolled on the bed....yes, we are home! The drive was beautiful...and long. The trip has been awesome. Tomorrow I will post highlights, funny moments, and Otis tails... and now, signing off until the next adventure!... read more

Well here I am...less than a week to go! I still can't believe that this big adventure which started over a year ago is about to happen. This year has been busy, emotional and satisfying. I have learned so much this year about generosity and kindness as well as how great my community is! I couldn't have bee so successful with my fundraising if it wasn't for my family and friends. I feel like I have done as much as I could to prepare for this, but still can't shake this anxious feeling in the pit of my stomach. My head is racing constantly with the things I need to remember before I leave. I think I will feel better once I'm gone! I have posted some pictures of the amazing adventures which have already happened ... read more

Gail & I are back in our familiar surroundings after an awesome two-weeks in Costa Rica. I didn't do as many blog postings as I'd hoped, partly because of the difficulties in finding an internet connection that worked and partly because we were having such a great time! The highlight of the journey for me was seeing the incredible variety of birds, flowers, insects, and mammals that abound in CR. We were privileged to watch two male resplendent quetzals vie for the attention of a lone female in a wild avocado tree one chilly morning. And on the way back from CaƱo Island in Osa, our tour boat slowed to witness a mother humpback whale teaching her son how to 'breach', a breathtaking spectacle where the whale leaps out of the water. (check out the photos) ... read more

Three days till we are in the air to Costa Rica! Passports? Check. Malaria pills? Check. Extra memory cards? Check. We're almost packed and definitely ready to go. Reservation for the first night? Well there was a bit of a snag: the biggest earthquake that Costa Rica has had in 150 years happened January 8th and was centered on the village of Vara Blanca where we had planned to spend our first night at the Poas Volcano Lodge. Sadly, the road to Vara Blanca is impassable and the lodge was severely damaged (though the earthquake took some forty lives, no one at the lodge was injured). We have mapped out an alternative route to our first destination and will stay in the regional town of San Ramon - a town famous for poets and presidents our ... read more

18th July 2008 Today we had a bit of a lie in until 7-30am, even the children slept until then. After some breakfast I took Amy and Richard to Hamilton Airport to catch a plane to Halifax. They are off to explore places they have not yet visited. We decided to take the children back to their own house in Toronto as they have their own beds and toys there. It was very hot and humid still and it was almost a pleasure to get into the car and put the air conditioning on. We did not have a chance to take any photographs today because of all the traveling about, and the photographer was still suffering from the effects of her migraine. More tomorrow.... read more

17th July 2008 We arrived back in Guelph about 6-30am having driven all night in shifts from Detrioit airport. Managed to get up again about 9-30am and try to get ourselves sorted out for the next stage of our trip. Richard and Amy had lots to sort out including washing and packing for their trip to Halifax. We could also catch up with the blogs we had not yet posted. The late night early morning had resulted in our photographer (Dinah) getting a migraine so we are short of pictures to use on our blog today. Went to the red brick cafe in Guelph for lunch. Marta arrived in Guelph with William and Hannah about 4.00pm and left them with us while she took off for a girlie weekend in New York. It was very hot ... read more
