We took a day trip to Chatterton Falls today from our campsite at Blueberry Island. I won't lie, the Falls were a little disappointing. I guess I have in it my head that waterfalls or something described as falls are a bit more intense. Chatterton Falls are pretty awesome, just in a less obvious ways. They were rushing and very beautiful, but you had to walk a way in order to see the whole falls. They were almost tiered... when you first got to the Falls, there was a medium sized waterfall. After docking, you walk up alongside the water and see a few more falls. When you walk a little bit more up, you see more, and so on and so on. Which was nice in a way because it really promoted a day of relaxing and exploring and many photo opportunities.
I did get to read a good amount of Hannah's "The Devil Wears Prada." I brought along "Franny and Zooey," "On the Road" and "East of Eden," but I think on vacation sometimes you want a book that you don't have to read every word of to get. So in that regard, "Devil" was great. Maybe when
I'm in Italy I'll read something a bit more sophisticated.
We also got to see my Canada-trip-long dream of seeing a moose today. While we were paddling through a rather rough patch of water, I looked up from my front seat perch of our five-person-laden canoe and saw a moose and her calf. Now I know what I should have done... I should have kept paddling, gotten through the fast moving water, and then slowly paddled to the moose so we could take nice, close pictures. But.. I yelled in excitement--
I'm sorry--and I only got a real quick photo of the moose climbing out of the water and hurrying back into the woods. Oops. We have seen a good amount of wildlife though. We've seen some loons real close, and a few eagles in the air. I just wish we'd have been able to see some more moose. Oh well... live and learn I guess: moose are timid.
Tonight was another starry night though, so that made up for the lack of moose. We saw a TON of shooting stars too. I think in total it was 20 shooting stars. It was really awesome. Hopefully, some of my
wishes come true. I am rather disappointed, though, that we haven't seen and Northern Lights. Apparently it's an eleven-year low for sun spots, which have a huge impact on the likelihood of seeing the Lights. Seeing thousands of stars in the sky and hundreds reflected in the water is awesome enough though. I really shouldn't complain. Or can I? No, I can't complain. Plus, the flies weren't bad today so I'll take what I can get while not being bitten and eaten by killer flies.
Starting to head back to the park entrances tomorrow. It's gone so fast, but I am kind of ready to head back. I'm not heading back without a great tan though. I got some good color today, but I'm going to have horrible tan lines. I can fix that tomorrow hopefully. Ciao from our last night on Blueberry Island!
