Nova Scotia’s Cabot Trail May 27-29, 2010 I finally arrived at the destination that I had been planning for months. The picturesque Cabot Trail where the saying is, “Come for the drive…savour the journey.” I found the Cabot Trail to be one of the most beautiful scenic drives I have every been on considering the rainy weather, fog conditions and an occasional segment of “pure sunshine” that never hampered my delight in arriving here. But before I get to the Cabot Trail let me bring you up to speed since my last travel blog. Riding the St. Lawrence Seaway was great and I had several beautiful days of riding weather with lots of sunshine. I decided not to tour Quebec’s Gaspe Peninsula due to weather conditions and lots of predicted rain. The weather forecasters turned out ... read more

After an amazing day yesterday, I slept so good last night. When I woke up this morning I felt extremely rested and relaxed. It really helped that the sun was shining and it was already 59 degrees. It was destined to be a glorious and beautiful day. Little did we know just how wonderful it would be. We were going to spend the day driving and hiking the Cabot Trail through the elusive Cape Breton National Park which is known to be one of the most beautiful scenic drives in the world. The five of us hopped up out of bed and began our morning rituals. Unfortunately there was only one shower in each bath house so it took us a little longer this morning than normal but we didn’t care, we were in no big ... read more

Day 10. 3862Km I put 508Km on the Island and nothing was telling me I had to see the East side. Maybe I'm board. Maybe if I could have taken the bike I'd have stayed longer. I must enjoy the journey more than the destination. Maybe I waited too long to become a truck driver. I enjoy driving. After fueling up I paid my $56.50 to leave the Island and headed back across the Confederation Bridge to New Brunswick. You see, you can GO to PEI for free either by bridge or ferry. You only pay when you want to leave. Reminds of the line from Hotel California; 'You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave'. I had considered the ferry just because it would added to the experience but (1) ... read more

Sunday, September 14, 2008 We packed up and left Martin’s River fairly early on our way to Baddeck on Cape Breton Island. Our first stop was in the Halifax area to see the Northwest Arm of the Halifax harbor. According to legend, that is where our great, great, great, great grandfather, Heinrich Strum, was ice fishing when a blizzard blew in and he froze to death in January of 1783. We made a short stop at the Aviation Museum near the airport. In Antigonish, we visited St. Ninian Cathedral. The regular service had already ended, but a special baptism for 5 infants was taking place. We went in and stayed for a part of the service. The paintings on the ceiling were luminescent pictures of Christ. We crossed the Canso Causeway onto Cape Breton Island and ... read more

28 July 2000 Friday. I worked until noon while Linda packed up the car and organized the house. She likes to have the house in pristine order before we leave for a trip. Our neighbors Tom and Wendy would take care of our cats; we always took care of their cats when they were on vacation. I got home at 12:15 pm expecting to depart immediately. But there were errands; to buy a hostess gift, snacks for the trip and lunch. We finally hit the road at 1:30 pm heading north on US 15 to I-81. He hot heavy traffic and rain in Scranton. At 6:30 we called our hotel for that night in Syracuse to see if our friends, Buz and Kathy, who would be joining us on the trip had arrived yet. They had ... read more
