The rain eased off today and we were able to go off around the area via Halifax, the capitol.
We drove through the countryside and along the coast until we reached the city of Halifax. Crossing the toll bridge we continued on to the picturesque village of Peggys Cove. There is a lighthouse there perched on a rock and it is surrounded by a coastline very similar to our own south west with huge boulders and king waves. There were pilot whales cruising off the coast and quite a few people clambering over the rocks and admiring the view.
We stopped a little way up the cove to visit a memorial erected to people who lost their lives in a Swissair plane crash in 1998.
The wind was freezing on the coast so we headed back to a little cafe in a nearby fishing village for lunch.
We made our way back via Halifax to the highway and back to the motel then later this afternoon we went in search of bears, driving up around past Antigonish and out to the coast. We didn't find any bears but the drive was very scenic passing green hills with lovely farmhouses and little coves with
rocky beaches. It ended up at Cape George where there was a lighthouse which on a clear day you can see Prince edward island from. The cloud was too thick today but it was nice looking out over the ocean.
