Yellowknife
The farthest north that I shall go on this trip and the farthest north I have ever been on a bike. August 1, 2011
Yellowknife
I attempted to dry things out this morning but that didn’t last long. It was a big scramble to get everything back in the tent before the rain. I was stuck in the tent till after lunch. I spent the afternoon updating blogs and doing emails and getting a few supplies. You would be amazed how long it takes to keep these blog current.
I still have stuff to do tomorrow so I will spend another day in Yellowknife. Yellowknife is a good little town. It is neat and clean and they have everything you need. The only store I would miss is Future Shop. I don’t know about the social dynamics of the town; due to the strong presence of natives but I like it here.
I am at what I believe the half-way point of this trip; maybe a little past. I say that without crunching any numbers. I came from southern Alberta to the far north and now I will cross the north and head to south BC; that sounds half-way to me. I am definitely as far north as I will get. I would like to be a little further
My Camp Site
The camp site is nice but a bit noisy. the airport is right next door. But i seem to be in the path of loons. Loons fly over the camp every night. in my ride considering the date but I am where I am. I would love to run into someone with a truck here who would offer to take me and my gear back to Ft. Providence. It is going to be a long road and I have been there and done it.
So at this time I have been:
31 days on a bike
38 days in a tent
2,450 km’s total riding a bike

Yellowknife Continued
I have spent the last 2 days in Yellowknife doing odds and ends. Yesterday it rained on and off today has been nice and hot. Yesterday I did laundry and had my bike tuned up. I actually changed my bike chain by myself for the first time ever, that being said the bike then needed a tune up so I don’t know if I got myself any further ahead. I also got my license plate. The one thing that I wanted to get was a NWT license plate and I got it. For those unaware the NWT license plate is in the shape of a polar bear which is a little
different than your typical license plate. I’ll take a picture of it and add it to a future blog. I tried to at the GM dealership, then went to the Chrysler dealership and got my plate at the Ford dealership. Anyways I am quite pleased.
Today I organized my stuff to leave and then did a bit of a tour around Yellowknife for some pictures of the city and area lakes. I also went looking for a second license plate as a gift for my buddy Steven and was successful in my hunt.
I am currently waiting to take a shuttle bus back to Ft. Providence. I have decided to take a bus rather than back pedal the 330 km’s I have already ridden. That section of highway is not exactly the most exciting highway to begin with. Taking the bus will let me catch up a little on my time and if I make up some extra time from it I will and would rather spend it on the Queen Charlotte Islands. It has also bought me an extra day in Yellowknife which as I said I enjoy. In fact I even attempted to go to the
employment office only to discover that it was later in the day then I realized and they were closed. But like I said I have already ridden this highway. Bus picks me up at midnight.
