The wind howls off Hudson Bay
Hi Guys.

The sea ice has almost all gone! Finally, we have a liquid Hudson Bay, there are still a few lingering chucks floating around, but for the most part it's all water. It has been a very late break-up this year! The polar bears are big and fat after spending more than a month longer than usual hunting on the ice floes, which is great news for the bears. But not so good for us people here. We are wondering if we will get a summer this year? The temperature has still been struggling to reach double digits and it has been a lot wetter than usual. All the rain, however, has made the tundra bloom. The flowers are out in huge numbers, the animals are healthy and bird life is prolific.
I've been doing a lot of tours out onto the tundra and we have sen our fair share of bears, foxes, caribou and many other arctic critters. Out in the mouth of the river there are now about four thousand beluga whales, swimming happily as they feast on fish. The entire area is getting more beautiful everyday.

The boreal forest ends a few miles south of Churchill.
as we tinker away with the machines, getting a few coats of paint down and generally cleaning everything up. It's keeping us all very busy!

On the few warm days that we've had (12 - 15C) we get the barbeque out, and whatever the weather, it doesn't stop me from going running, getting on my bike or going for a hike to Cape Merry.

I am optimistic that August will be nice and warm?!

The sea ice is still lingering on July 17th. A walk on the beach at low tide is beautiful! But you have to keep an eye open for Polar bears!
