Whenever I don my backpack to venture elsewhere into this world, I always make sure I am an unofficial ambassador for my home. And yes, I have a Canadian flag sown proudly on everything I own. I know...gag. But seriously, British Columbia is really worth the brag. Like a true Canadian, I get teased for my positivity and wonderment, and for my happy-go-lucky way. We are all polite to a default, s... Read Full Entry

Not the same moose that ran through our tent, but I'm sure they are vaguely related.

A vacant campsite was hard to come by. We stumbled across this one and decided to take a breather and just relax. It was bliss.

The Bowron Lakes fall right in the middle of this map, right in the path of the destructive pine beetle that has killed huge masses of our forest in BC. It is devastating and we will never recover in my lifetime.

HAD TO VOTE
I had to vote on your stunning opening picture...but the devastation of the destructive pine beetle makes me sad & apprehensive...perchance an example why quarantine in Oz is so stringent...& why we visit places before its too late...some places never recover.

Andrea, once again an outstanding blog
I'm so glad you took the time to tell this story. The photos are fantastic. Loved the comparison of the trip you made as a child and the current trip. You really have some writing talent. I think you should consider doing some professional writing. It is good to have a mountain man along on adventures. Can't wait to read your next blog. Early next week we will be booking our fall travels plans. I'll write you once they are complete. We may vacation in Canada--however, we won't be close to you. Happy Travels

A fabulous reminder!
I enjoyed reading your blog which I stumbled upon. You write extremely well and your photos are gorgeous! My husband and I live in Seattle and we did this trip around Bowron Lakes, about 6 years ago with our 2 sons, who were 11 and 13 years old at the time, in two sea kayaks. We loved the adventure and the incomparable scenery, but we unfortunately had some difficulties with portage as you did. We had the wheel carriers but at every portage we had to unpack and repack and carry as much as possible to re-position and unburden the load. This took a long time with young kids, and we definitely took way too much with us! So much so that we gave away food en route to others and we burnt the just released latest Harry Potter hard cover which my sons couldn't do without until they had both read it by halfway! It had got wet and weighed twice as much too. We all loved the family experience and like your family have been on many other adventures since. Whilst my husband was back home in Sydney, my sons and I went to Desolation sound kayaking and camping 130 miles in 6 days this summer. We love Canada, the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful!

Thank you for your kind compliments Ingrid! I'm so glad your family enjoyed the Bowron lakes. Those kind of memories will stay with your children always. Cheers!

Great photos
Really enjoyed your canoe adventure… and you captured some awesome photos. I'd like to try making a watercolour painting of the "Morning on Bowron Lake Chain."
