Our day started with a shoe purchase for me since my Nike's are bald and we're intending to do some hiking in Whistler. The sports shop guy was a sport enthusiast and very helpful. He had also run in NZ so there was much to talk about. We had an amazing driving day as we went through dramatic scenery. As we left Kamloops we travelled alongside a large lake where we could see an incredibly long train on the other side so we stopped to take a photos and a video. The train must have been more than a kilometre long with two engines hauling it along. It looked like a long coloured snake against the mountains and lake. We drove through badlands with heavily eroded steep rocky hillsides dropping away to flat irrigated farmland. At ... read more

Whistler BC Canada 3 September 2016 During our return visit to Vancouver, with the hire car, we drove up to Whistler. What a beautiful drive. We followed the Cheakamus River on one side and incredible rocks the other. It was a beautiful day. We drove along Howe Sound between Vancouver and Squamish which is generally considered to be one of the most scenic routes in the world. Historically, the Sea To Sky Highway also had a reputation for being one of the deadliest scenic highways in the world, but was significantly upgraded and widened prior to the 2010 Winter Olympics, and is far safer today. The drive took us 1 ½ hours and arrived at Whistle Village finding a car park with ease. We drove around Upper Whistler Village first before parking. It was a busy ... read more

After leaving Jasper, our first stop on the long journey to Whistler was at Valemount. We'd heard from someone we spoke to in Jasper that the salmon are spawning in the river which is only a few hundred meters from the visitors centre. We parked at the visitors centre, then walked down to the viewing platform and it didn't take long before we spotted a couple of salmon making the arduous journey upstream. There weren't any waterfalls or anything so we didn't get to witness any spectacular leaps but they're not small fish so it was pretty cool to see them thrashing through the rapids. Sadly, after they've spawned they die, and we did see a couple of dead ones on the bank. From Valemount we stopped for the night at a place called Bone Creek ... read more

Geo: 50.1183, -122.954Today we took the Gondola up to Mt. Whistler.  We walked through the upper village to the lower village, up and down many steps until we reached the first leg of the Gondola.  It was raining and cloudy.  We rode to the peak where we reached the summit house.  Enjoyed hot chocolate and admired the snow capped mountains.  Visibility was not good though; but, we made the best of it.  We then rode the Peak to Peak Gondola which is the longest suspension gondola in the world and covers 1.88 miles with no poles.  Amazing views even when it's cloudy.  We wanted to take the chair lift up to the top of Mt. Whistler but it was too cloudy and rainy.  We rode back to the summit house and down again.  We managed to ... read more

Geo: 50.1183, -122.954Today after the conference meeting this morning, we were scheduled to take a float plane to look at the surrounding area from above. The heavy fog caused this trip to be cancelled; so, we decided to enjoy our beautiful surroundings. We hiked to Lost Lake and took lots of pictures. After our hike we stopped by the wine store and then back to our hotel to enjoy our beautiful room and relax until tonight when we will attend an Awards Dinner at the Alpine Cabana Courtyard. I've included lots of pictures of our hike.... read more

Geo: 50.1183, -122.954It is so exciting to go somewhere that you have never been before.  This is our first trip to Canada and it is beautiful.  I am attending a Premier Advisor Conference in Whistler at the Four Seasons.  H D Vest (my Broker/Dealer) hosts a conference every year in some beautiful place for the top 75 reps (out of approximately 5,000 nationwide).  Although I have been close a couple of times, I've never made it to the top tier.  Brian Stephens, my associate (who is NUMBER 3) has allowed me to go in his place.  Can you believe it!!!!  When we landed in Vancover, Company reps were there to meet us.  The immigration line was very very long, and once on the other side, we were escorted to a fancy van for the two hour ... read more

It's 6.40am on Monday morning. I didn't get chance to write yesterday's blog as we had a pretty packed day! I keep waking up early or in the middle of the night which is weird because normally once I'm asleep that's it. Maybe it's still jet lag or just the fact we're going to bed a lot earlier them I normally do back home. Yesterday we were up about 8 trying to tidy up the hotel room. As soon as we invade one it always gets trashed with our things scattered everywhere and we have to tidy up for the cleaners! Once the room was acceptable we set about putting on some clothes that we didn't mind getting dusty and dirty as first up we had RZR (pronounced Razor) at 10.30. This is basically like a ... read more

So got up early this morning and it's safe to say I was not looking forward to this mornings 'adventure' activity... Zipping with Ziptrek Eco Tours. They have three tours available. The bear tour, eagle tour and the Sasquatch. The bear tour was the easiest and lowest. I had booked this weeks ago as a present for Stephs 30th birthday for us both despite the fact it's well known I'm petrified of heights (thanks dad!). We checked in early about 9.15 and signed our life away again with the waiver and got weighed so they knew which equipment and harness to use. We then had half an hour until we had to meet at 10am to get the minibus up Blackcomb Mountain to the base of the trek to the zip lines. We went to the ... read more

Bowen to whistler Last night we were so tired that after a shower we went out for a quick dinner. We came across a small Italian with only outdoor seating with a few tables. I had pasta pomadoro (carbohydrate comfort food) and Katie had yet another pizza! Shortly after we headed back to the lodge for an early night and came across another deer crossing the road. Today we woke early so had a bit of a chilled morning packing up ready to depart for whistler. Before catching the ferry back across we went for breakfast at a lovely cafe called Artisan Eats. A great little place where we sat outside in 23 degree heat with French toast and breakfast burrito, it was almost a shame to leave. We then went and parked the car in ... read more

Our plan to get to Whistler was simple... We'd just hop on the Greyhound and that would take us from Downtown Squamish to Downtown Whistler. It was going to be a nice relaxing day. That's not how it turned out. We discovered as we tried to put this plan into action that the Greyhound doesn't stop in Downtown Squamish, rather it stops in the commercial centre. This is quite a long bus ride away. The bus comes only once an hour. We left the hotel with five minutes to spare but couldn't find the bus stop. As the bus drove past us we ran to catch it but the driver just kept going. At least we now knew the route it took and could find the stop. We waited in the rain for the next bus ... read more
