Matt and I had a wonderful weekend away in the beautiful city of Victoria BC. It was like a little vacation for us, which was great! We had to get up bright and early friday morning to catch a ferry out of Tswassen. Thankfully there was a starbucks at the terminal so I had that along with my fav Island Oat Bar and started to feel much more awake.
Once off the ferry we headed straight downtown to explore. First thing we wanted to check out was the Legislature buildings (BC Parliment) and luckily for us it was open for us to wander through. It was decorated beautifully for Christmas and we were able to explore much of the building. The structure is really cool inside; lots of detailing in the walls and mosiacs on the floor. There was an amazing stained glass window that is from the original opening of the building too.
From there we headed grabbed some yummy panini’s and walked the downtown cobbled streets. I really wanted to check out Craigdarroch - though Matt wasnt too thrilled about paying the $12 to get in. But its an old historical manor thats been there since the 1800’s and
for BC… thats OLD! Its also said to be haunted, but I wont get into that since it gave me nightmares last night just thinking about it haha. The manor has about 4 stories and around 13/14 rooms I believe. It has stunning woodworking EVERYWHERE and all these little cozy nooks and crannies. The historical society did a brilliant job of making it feel like it did back when it was lived in.
From there we decided to head back to our hotel - The Westin at Bear Mountain Resort. After some confusion of which one of the hotels was actually ours we were given the key to an amazing room. It was huge! Full kitchen, living room, seperate bedroom and a massive bathroom. It made us wish we were staying longer than two days to really enjoy it! On arrival there was also a wonderful gift basket addresses to us from Matts boss and his wife with lots of goodies in it just for us. We got into our dressy outfits and headed to the lobby to meet up with the rest of Matts company. We had an amazing formal dinner in a private wine cellar downstairs with our
own private waiters! The food was… indescribable. Lets just say it was incredible. It ended up going late but I was still determined to enjoy the big bathtub in our room - even if it meant staying away til 1am!
We had a credit of $100 to our room, so we decided to order a huge breakfast to our room the next morning. There was so much food I could barely eat half of it! Thankfully, I married the right man for that kind of problem After wandering around the resort a bit more we headed back downtown to see the Royal BC Museum and the IMAX. The lady at the counter was super nice and gave us a discount to get in and we spent a few hours wandering around all the exhibits. Seriously - if you have never been to this place before, I HIGHLY suggest you check it out. It was so well done and I couldnt believe how good it was (and I had high expectations of it.) We also saw the IMAX special “Under the Sea” narrarated by Jim Carrey. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
After that our time was already up! We left downtown to
get some lunch on the way to the ferry terminal (since the crepe place we so desperately wanted to eat at ran OUT of crepes!) and then headed home.
All in all - GREAT weekend. A BIG HUGE thank you goes out to Matts boss Steve & his wife Barb. It was incredibly generous of them to take us all there for the weekend and we had a wonderful time
