Vanderhoof is the closest I can get to where I am.........Takla Landing, B.C. It has been a long journey coming home to B.C., and, when I finally did return two weeks ago, I did choose to stay in Vancouver, or Prince George, or even Ft. St. James. No, I chose Takla Landing, on the shores of the immensely beautiful Takla Lake. I'll work and live here, among the pines and the moose and the very friendly Takla First Nations people.
The area is so..............quiet. I came back to B.C. from Kiev, Ukraine.....seven million people and NEVER quiet! Before that, the UAE..........quieter, in a way, but nothing like this. Before that, Qinhuangdao, China.....NOT quiet!!!
It is almost unnervingly quiet!!!
Takla Lake is in almost the geographical center of B.C., only a few kilometers from Vanderrhoof, the true center. The lake itself is huge, one of the largest in a province that has many huge lakes. The lake is rimmed on the west, south and north by hills and mountains, some of which keep snow all year. Takla is known for its good fishing, but I have yet to discover how good it is. It is late August, and there is already a

profound chill in the air, especially on clear nights. But, those clear nights also yield an absolutely stunning tapestry of stars, and the milky way. Amazing. The first night I gazed upwards, and actually saw the stars, I wondered what they were!!! I had not seen that kind of clarity in the night sky in a great many years.
Takla is a very small First Nations village. 500 to 600 people..................total. That, in its own way, is incredible, especially after Kiev, Al Ain, and China. There was no escaping people there...............there were always people around. Here? Zilch. You can literally go a half hour or much more, if you want to, without seeing or hearing anouther human being.
There is very little in the way of amenities...................of course the basics are here. There is an often tenuous satellite internet relay, a small store and restaurant/hotel, and a school. A lot of 4x4's, and a lot of dogs.
I am still settling in, and will update as we go along into the fall and winter..............
