Welcome...
to Vancouver!!!! Back to Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I return, this time to the West side!!!!!!!!!
We crossed the border with relative ease. No real queue unlike when I went from Canada to America, although we did take a while to set off as a few people got addtional questioning by immigration and one guy got denied entry due to his previous DUI conviction. Those canadians have hasrh border controls!!! Least I didn't get hassled this time :-)
The bus ride to Vancouver was pretty cool, some really great scenery and the station they have there is one of the nicest I have seen on my trip, if not the nicest. I got a cab to my hostel, was touch and go if I could afford it as I only had my left over Canadian money from Toronto and the ATM at the station was broke but luckily I could afford it. I had a rest when I got there and then went for a walk, they have a beach not far away although it was dark so couldn't see much. I got bored after exploring the immediate area and had a rest back at the hostel before heading out again to check
me on a cold day in Vancouver
Me at the fornt of stanley park by a big lake & fountain. out the town. This was the weekend before Halloween so a ton of people were out on costume partying. I didn't have a costume and wasn't feeling too great so was just looking for somewhere to drink rather then club. I couldn't find anywhere for ages!! I walked into gay pub by accident and quickly left again. I found a small pub/bar in the middle of the main drag eventually, had one drink there before walking all the way down to the other end of town where I was told was a good place to go on a night out. I overshot the turning and ended up at the bay before finding the right road and walking down to the place I had been recommended. I got there and there was people queuing, I couldn't be bothered so went to a place I saw round the corner that had no queue. I got straight in and it turns out they was doing Karoke!!!! I stayed here and watched the people sing anddrank a few and then got chatting to a local who was there on there own to. We hung together and they, along with the aussie guy from portland/seattle
The fountain
the fountain in the lake. who I was txting to say I'd found a karoke place, convinced me to sign towards the end of the night. Alot of the people had already left but there was stilla a sizable crowd, I got up and sang and I didn't get booed or attacked so can't have been too bad. I stayed here all night and then went back to the hostel.
The next day I was feeling pretty crap. I took a walk and caught a ferry that went all of 50 metres to Granville island which had a market and some stores. It was grey and rainy and I wasn't impressed with the place. Nevertheless I explored it, had lunch and headed back and went round the town in the day time. There wasn't much to do and I eventually went to the cinema and saw 30 Days of Night (not that great a film). I was invited to go out that night by the local I had met the night before but they was in part of town I hadn't been to and I had a cold by now so stayed in and rested. Tried making some macroni and cheese and it tasted
pretty crap, threw most of it away. The hostel ahd also that day checked me out coz I had only paid for 2 days, even tho I had booked 3, so had to pay for the extra day.
The next day I was slightly better but still ill and went to Stanley Park. Most of the seawall was shut down though and the wetaher wasn't too good when I was there, wet and cold. I saw a good section of it though before I left. I had explored another part of the town beforehand and had food and then once again went back to the centre to explore, have a drink and food and then rest at the hostel again. I was invited out again by the local I had met, they were going to a gig and I said I wouldnt go to the gig but would go for drinks. So met them for drinks before the gig and felt better so decided to go to the gig. It was a group from Toronto that did instrumental music but was really good, really mellow and sounded amazing, I loved it.
My bus wasn't until early evening so
Shot of the city 2 with boatyard
another shot, bbit lighter, some more green I took it easy, still being ill, and just went round the town again.
My next stop.....Banff!!!!
