Day 1: Toronto, Ontario to Vancouver, British Columbia- The Adventure begins! The day has final arrived. After a year of planning my cousin, Ryan and his fiancé, Petrina, are getting married! My whole family is flying to Vancouver to celebrate the upcoming nuptials. Following the wedding, my family and a few relatives are heading on a weeklong cruise to the land of the midnight sun, Alaska. I can't wait! We arrived in Vancouver late Wednesday evening and took a taxi to our AirBnB accommodation in Surrey, BC. Although incredibly spacious, our accommodation was inconveniently located. Therefore, tomorrow, my family is going to rent a car to take us around.... read more

I am embarrassed to admit how long it has taken me to work out how to do this blog thing. I hope to remember next time and save much angst and gnashing of teeth. This is the second time I have typed something similar as I did not realise I had to save it. Oops! What a goose! I purchased a camera, thank you Wendy for doing the leg work for me, but could not drive the #%^{¥€% thing until this morning. Memo to self. Read the instruction before using. Once again the refrain of "What an idiot!" resonates. (Yes. I know it in written on the instructions. As I have want to say myself......."The plans have been on Alpha Centauri for the last 20 000 years and you haven't bothered to read it?" We have ... read more

Ohmygodohmygodohmygod. Guys, I will be out of the country for a year starting today. This is crazy. Gah! The nervous anxiety started last night after I got ready for bed, and between that and an early morning flight, I got very little sleep last night. I still can't really believe this is happening! I am currently sitting in the Vancouver airport, waiting for the plane that will take me to Korea. I've never been to this airport before, but seriously this is the nicest airport I've ever been in. It feels more like a giant (super fancy) hotel than an airport, to be honest, which is REALLY weird. Not even kidding, there is a freaking POND in the middle of the airport (like in the shopping courtyard. Btw, the courtyard is comprised mostly of duty free ... read more

... read more

So the first leg of our mystery journey was not such a mystery; not so easy to hide Vancouver as a destination. But we did manage a little mystery, as in, will the plane land. Mother Nature, on cue, made sure snow would arrive in time to wish us a farewll and give our nerves a small test before we got into the meat of our journey. The white stuff was coming down fast and furious, but it could not deny Penny's power to will that plane down. So on board we got, a few bumps in the sky, and suddenly we were in YVR, the gateway to the beginning of our adventure. We are now tucked in and waiting for tomorrow to arrive; forget about which will be our first stop once we leave Vancouver, ... read more

Where is our next adventure? Well, I have a long list. And for a start, we need to apply for a Chinese visa. So I downloaded the forms and get it going. Tomorrow, we need to have our passport photos taken to complete the application for the Chinese visa. After the Chinese visa, we need to do the Australian visa. We had been assured by Holland America (HAL) line that they will do the Visa on Arrival (VOA) for other countries like Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and Vietnam. They will charge it to our account. By the time our visas are stamped on our passports, we'll be shelling at least US$700.00 for my husband and myself. Bear with me on this one. Why do they even need to require visas? Those are some of the things ... read more
