Okay so what's new? ... read more

Arriving at Sydney Airport on Wednesday morning I was hoping to get there early and secure a seat in exit row. The friendly girl at the Air Canada counter informed me that there were none available but that she would seat me where there was a vacant seat next to me. Once I boarded the plane, I saw the two people who were in the check in counter ahead of me. They sat down next to me. I guess I wasn't going to get that empty row afterall... I do not recommend a flight that long to anyone! The only benefit is that when you arrive, you are already at your destination (different to when travelling to Europe where you do it in two flights). The flight was bumpy for a lot of the time and ... read more

Day 53 ( July 14, 2011) Looking back at my last post I need to say that the BC leg of this trip has been far better than we could have anticipated. Let’s start with the farm in Pemberton, which we arrived at the last day of June. Rootdown Farm is co-owned by three young and energetic women named Sarah, Simone and Nikki. They have university educations related to agriculture, though I can’t remember the exact title of the degree. Last year was the first year of real farming on this property and their progress is nothing short of impressive. There are two large crops on each end of the property with every type of vegetable you can think of. They also have chickens, newly-acquired pigs and one of my new favourite dogs, Buster. There’s so ... read more

Its been a while since I havent done this. Writing my adventures in English for a Spanish audience? Well. Let me say that is nt right at al, since most of my audience doesnt understand english. So , maybe i will swap both languages from time to time just to practice both . Also, I could write in French but my french audience has probably long forgotten about me.

Well, my first bit of my gap year has now finished :(. Canada has been so amazing!! I really don't want to leave. On Sunday night i left my relatives (Len and Grace) in Saskatoon and headed towards the town of Jasper in the Rockies on the bus. While we were driving there it started to rain pretty hard which was pretty annoying, but luckily as we started to come into the rocky mountains we could see most of them through the cloud. When i got to the hostel i went for a short walk up the mountain that the hostel is on and it started to clear up, there was even a rainbow over Jasper which you will see when i finally get round to uploading my photos. That night i met a guy who ... read more

A slow moving morning, caught up on some emails and relaxed at the house. Jim, Joe, Jon and Nick went off to put the dingy in the water while Naomi, Linda and I got ready for the afternoon on the boat. At the marina, there was a seal at the gate, quite a curious creature, coming right up to me as I was taking it's picture. We settled onto the boat and headed out across the water to a bay on Bowen Island were we anchored and had a swim. Lunch on the boat consisted of bread, tomatoes and salami and various cheeses which was great. We put ashore in another small bay, where the island ferry docked, and had a walk around the small village, having ice cream for dessert. The boat is like a ... read more

Monday morning arrived, and we got up early to pack and get on the road. Down to the main lodge for a quick breakfast and said good bye to everyone. Once on the road we headed back to West Vancouver and Naomi. We were about an hour and a half driving in the rain which cleared as we got to Vancouver. Naomi, Linda, Jim and I went out for Dim Sum which proved to be a great meal. It has been such a long while since I have had Dim Sum and I thoroughly enjoyed to meal. We took the leftovers back to Jon, who like Jim eats food when it is offered, he just loves to eat. Upon return to their home, Linda, Naomi and I went up to the Safeway and bought jars, certo ... read more

According to Julia, AC/DC is the best band ever. Prior to our trip, she discovered that they had recorded in a studio on Powell street in Vancouver. Our mission on Day 2 was to find said studio and at least touch the same door handle as her ‘rock gods’. And so with 100 Powell street as one of our objectives, we headed out to explore Vancouver. Our friends Mike and Sandra served as tour guides and we were most grateful to be chauffeured around. Our first stop was The Warehouse recording studio that is located downtown near the waterfront. The only marking on the place is the address and an intercom discretely mounted on the side of the wall. I buzzed and spoke to the faceless voice to see if there was a way to ... read more
